In a stunning ultimatum aired on Monday a senior Taliban spokesmen told Sky News that American troops must exit Afghanistan by August 31st. This is despite Biden having left hundreds if not thousands of Americans and Afghan loyalists behind.
The Taliban spokesmen confidently reclining in a chair threatened severe “consequences” for those troops refusing to relinquish control of Hamid Karzai International Airport after the August 31st deadline.
“It’s a red line,” the Taliban spokesperson told the news outlet during an interview adding; “President Biden announced that on 31 August they would withdraw all their military forces. So if they extend it that means they are extending occupation while there is no need for that.”
"The foreign military withdrawal should be complete by 31st August" @suhailshaheen1 spokesperson for the Taliban says the group do not want any delays and if international forces extend their stay in Afghanistan, there will be consequences pic.twitter.com/NtvQPRSA5W— Yalda Hakim (@BBCYaldaHakim) August 23, 2021
Adding, “If the US or UK were to seek additional time to continue evacuations – the answer is no… Or there would be consequences,” the Taliban spokesperson explained. If Biden tries to maintain a presence to secure and operate the Kabul airport beyond August 31st, such a move “will create mistrust between us,” says the Taliban. “If they are intent on continuing the occupation it will provoke a reaction,” threatened the Taliban spokesperson.
The fact that the Taliban has publicly threatened the United States of America (the only legitimate “superpower” on Earth) should send shockwaves to those Americans and loyalists still stranded in Afghanistan after the 31st.
The Taliban will most likely make it impossible for those Americans stranded within the interior of the country to navigate safely through the number of Taliban controlled checkpoints to the airport.
Moreover, the Pentagon has already confirmed the growing number of violent incidents taking place daily. Americans along with Afghan loyalists have been routinely harassed and in some instances beaten as they attempt to reach the safety of the airport. This is in direct contradiction to Bidens claim that he has an agreement with the terrorist group allowing for safe passage to the airport.
It appears once August 31st comes and goes an undisclosed number of Americans will most likely still be in Afghanistan. Their fate will then be in the hands of the Taliban, and it’s all Joe Biden’s fault.
They’ll most likely be used as bargaining chips, or worse yet kept indefinitely as hostages in hopes of keeping America at bay. Even more distressing is the fact that the administration along with the Pentagon and State Department haven’t got a clue as to the exact number of Americans still stranded in Afghanistan.
Bidens disastrous decision has put America at an unprecedented global disadvantage. The possibility now exists that history is once again repeating itself with Americans being held captive and being paraded on TV screens across the globe.
Biden is expected to announce sometime on Tuesday if he will extend the August 31st deadline, putting America in direct conflict with the Taliban’s “red-line” threat.
According to Reuters News, Biden will make the decision in less than 24 hours to give American troops ample time to prepare.
What happens next if Biden gives the green-light to extend the deadline, and to the roughly 6,000 American troops stationed in the airport, is anyone’s guess.
During Monday’s White House press briefing National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan again reiterated the United States has talking with the Taliban every day. However, he refused to comment further on the “red-line” threat by Taliban leaders or if Biden will decide to extend the August 31st deadline.
