Another day, another example of rampant crime in California, a state whose own police are now warning would-be tourists that it’s too dangerous to visit. This time, the insane crime took place in Oakland.
According to Mercury News, three armed thugs robbed an NBC news crew, stealing their camera equipment but not inflicting any casualties:
The crew was on assignment in the Jack London Square area when three armed individuals took a camera from inside the crew’s vehicle, according to Oakland Police Department spokesperson Kim Armstead. None of the crew members were holding the camera at the time and there were no injuries.
And, while shocking, the crime is hardly out of the blue. In fact, such crimes are becoming quite commonplace in crime-ridden California, with this being the third robbery of a news crew in Oakland in as many weeks. As ZeroHedge reports:
The robbery marks the third incident involving news organizations in Oakland in the last two-and-a-half weeks.
On Dec. 3, a San Francisco Chronicle photographer was robbed at gunpoint in West Oakland.
And on Nov. 24, Kevin Nishita – a security guard and former police officer – was fatally shot during an attempted robbery downtown while he was with a KRON-TV Channel 4 news crew.
Such rampant crime is even pushing California Democrats to refund the police, with the Hill reporting that Oakland Mayor is pushing a bill that would increase the police presence, which is currently the lowest it has been in a decade.
Sill, while Mayor Libby Schaaf can say “We in Oakland believe in a comprehensive and effective approach to ending gun violence” all she wants, it’s hard to imagine the threat level for law-abiding citizens will change until the city government starts locking up thugs for good.
Whatever the police presence, criminals must be off the street for crime to go down.
