SURPRISED?: People Quit Moving to California

Who wants to move to California? Not conservatives or anyone making less than $75K. Don’t worry though, California. Despite the nearly 200k loss of people (meaning people who moved, not people who died) in the state in 2020 alone, college grads continue to flock to the Golden State to be sucked dry by terrible tax rates and restricted by totalitarian COVID-19 mandates.

In spite of all the obvious negative attention that California as a state has received, researchers were actually surprised by this information. It’s almost like they couldn’t see the people piling up in Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee.

Summer of 2021, Utah experienced a housing crisis. People were unable to purchase homes caused by the amount of people moving to the state, in turn causing shortages in an already short supply thanks to the Kung Flu. Homes that were generally sold for $300K pre-COVID saw sales of well over $500K, because people were so desperate to get out of California and into a red state with great business perks.

For several months, some states faced these housing shortages because there simply aren’t enough homes for everyone in the market. Many times Californians were going online and making bids without even seeing the homes.

Nonetheless, researchers were surprised according to Fox News.

“I guess I was a little bit surprised to see that entrances had fallen so much. It wasn’t so much that we saw it in a particular area. For me, the surprise was that this was a statewide phenomenon,” co-author of the study from California Police Lab, Evan White, told KCRA.”

“The study found a 38% decrease in people moving to California at the end of September 2021 compared to the end of March 2020. The study found a 12% increase in residents moving out of state.

“White noted that while the spiked exodus from the state is notable, the drop in people moving to the state is “the bigger story.”

“He said the biggest changes were in the San Francisco Bay Area. There was a 45% decrease in entrances from other states to the Bay Area and a 12% increase in residents leaving for other states.

“Sacramento County, home to the state’s capital, saw a 33% decrease of people moving in and a 13% increase in people leaving for other states.

“Overall, all regions of the state saw anywhere from a 25% to 45% decline in out-of-state entrances.”

The decrease in population, which has nothing to do with COVID deaths (I’m talking to those twitter users out there who think this whole article is GOP farce), resulted in California losing one of 53 congressional seats according to the same Fox News report. A man who actually read the report the user cited made sure to correct her.

The user’s tweet from above was in reference to this one below.

Included below is a video from Fox News discussing the decline in people moving to the state and those moving out of the state.

Ironically, if you listen to the report, the state is still growing in some ways. They’re gaining all those college grads who want to work for Apple and the like. College graduates that make more than $125k are still moving into California.

Also, Tesla, Disney and about 72 other business have left California in 2021 according to a local news station.

Those of us who don’t live in California likely don’t care one way or another if people live in the state, but I do know there is one sentiment the majority of us feel toward those Californians who feeling to red states; recognize the definition of insanity and stop voting for the same policies and leaders that caused you to run away in the first place.
