Former President Trump, a self-described “counter-puncher” that generally employs a take no prisoners approach when dealing with political enemies, recently raised the black flag again, this time to excoriate weak-kneed Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority leader known for backing down to Democrats and eschewing the MAGA agenda in favor of typical Conservative, Inc. priorities.
Furious over McConnell’s backing down to the leftist agenda, Trump released a statement in which he said:
Mitch McConnell has given away the Unfrastructure Bill and will soon be giving away the Build Back Worse Bill, which will change the very fabric of our society. This was all made possible by the two-month extension he gave the Democrats, the separation of the two Bills, and, most importantly, his lack of courage in playing the Debt Ceiling Card. He has grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory! How this guy can stay as Leader is beyond comprehension—this is coming not only from me, but from virtually everyone in the Republican Party. He is a disaster and should be replaced as “Leader” ASAP!
The statement was likely in response to both McConnell backing down on the debt ceiling and recent reports that Democrats are aiming to pass their voting reform legislation.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, another conservative firebrand with a penchant for blasting those without spines, skewered McConnell on Twitter, calling him “Biden’s b**h” and also saying:
“The House of Representatives is voting after midnight tonight because Leader McConnell allowed Democrats to bi-pass the filibuster and ram through the debt ceiling increase to $31.5 trillion.”
While the statement only makes references to Mitch’s surrender on the debt ceiling and the radical, leftist “Voting Rights Bill,” some speculate that the timing of the statement has more to do with Mitch going along with leftist proposals to continue dragging up Jan. 6th. As Just the News said:
The statement does indeed come several days after McConnell cut a deal in the Senate that allowed Congress to raise the debt limit. Yet Trump’s remarks seem more timed to revelations on Friday that McConnell was more sympathetic to the congressional Jan. 6 committee than earlier anticipated.
“It was a horrendous event and I think what they are seeking to find out is something the public needs to know,” McConnell said during an interview with Specturm News.
However, it remains to be seen if the GOP will side with Trump or McConnell as, according to Business Insider, more of the Senate is in McConnell’s camp. But, as the base still sides with Trump, it’s unclear who will emerge victorious in the struggle between the MAGA side of the GOP and McConnell’s Conservative, Inc. side.
