Brandon and his oatmeal-fueled brain cells are furious at Sen. Manchin for not supporting a radical “voting rights” bill, so the far-left has attacked and slandered Manchin recently, saying he “doesn’t care about” blacks and comparing him to segregationists.
Manchin, however, isn’t backing down in the face of such vicious criticism. Rather, he’s digging in his heels and fighting back against Team Brandon and the rest of the radical left.
Most recently, that became obvious when Manchin spoke to reporters and said that Americans already “have the right to vote” and that though people pretend “like we’re going to obstruct people from voting. That’s not going to happen.”
Those comments came when a reporter asked Manchin “There are a lot of people out there who are saying that you’re making it so that they’re not going to be able to vote in the next election?”
Rather than just walking away from such a ridiculous and obviously biased question, Manchin chose to respond, saying:
“The law’s there. The rules are there. And basically, the government. The government will stand behind them and make sure they have the right to vote. We have that.
The things they’re talking about now are in court. Marc Elias has an awful lot in court. The courts have struck down, like in Ohio, they struck down the gerrymandering. Things are happening, okay. We act like we’re going to obstruct people from voting. That’s not going to happen.”
While the left has reacted to Manchin’s steadfast refusal to back Brandon’s voting rights bill with predictable outrage, he’s remained steady throughout the storm of leftist tears. For example, on the issue of voting rights and the filibuster, Manchin said:
“[I’ve] always been for rules [changes] being done the way we’ve always done them, two-thirds of members voting, and any way you can do a rules change to where everyone is involved, and basically that’s a rule that usually will stay, that’s what we should be pursuing.
[We’re] still having ongoing conversations as far as voting because I think the bedrock of democracy is making sure that you’re able to cast a vote. If you’re legal, of age, and a United States citizen, you should be able to cast a vote, and it should be counted accurately. So we’re talking about those things there.”
The problem for Manchin is that he’s something of a moderate in a party of far-leftists. Though he’d probably be willing to go along with some form of a voting bill, and would certainly be willing to go along with a pared-back Build Back Better bill, nothing the left presents him with will be acceptable to the voters of West Virginia, and thus won’t be acceptable to him.
As a result, Manchin will likely face continued criticism and continued, vicious attacks from hacks on the left as his party trends even more toward the far left and he is forced to remain a moderate if he wants to get reelected in West Virginia.
We on the right can only hope he remains steadfast in the face of such vicious criticism; many “moderates” on the right, namely Mitt Romney, surely wouldn’t have the guts to do so.
