Mitch McConnell is certainly not a rock-ribbed conservative. He’s backed down to the left time and time again, often managing to pluck defeat from the jaws of victory by refusing to stand firm and wield power in the realpolitik way that the left wields it.
However, though that’s generally true, there’s one issue on which McConnell has actually done a good job, one issue that was so big even he grew a spine and learned to fight. That issue is judges, an issue that’s caused him to (potentially) regrow his spine and return to those brave days where he refused to nominate Merrick Garland and weathered the storm of leftist criticism, postponing a vote on any SCOTUS pick until Trump was firmly in office.
When Trump was in office, McConnell, unfortunately, didn’t push through much legislation, which was a waste. Much of what Trump ended up doing thanks to Mitch calling it quits was done through executive order, which made it easily reversible once Brandon somehow ended up in the White House.
The bright spot, however, was that Mitch did confirm a massive number of judges to the court. 234, to be exact, three of whom now sit on the Supreme Court. Few are as conservative as might be ideal, but they’re still a whole lot better than anyone the left would put up. Though Mitch normally doesn’t have a backbone, he did on that issue.
Now it might be growing back yet again as the judge issue comes back into play with Justice Breyer’s recently announced retirement. Brandon has already announced that he’ll replace Breyer, something Tucker hilariously lampooned in a recent segment.
Mitch McConnell, however, isn’t a fan of that overtly racist and sexist plan and said as much in a statement. Discussing the issue in a statement and issuing a warning to Brandon, he said:
“I congratulate Justice Breyer on nearly three decades of thoughtful and consequential service on the Supreme Court, capping forty-plus years of total service on the federal bench. Justice Breyer’s commitment to the importance of a nonpartisan, non-politicized judiciary has been especially admirable. Even in the face of undue criticism from the modern political left, Justice Breyer has remained a principled voice against destructive proposals such as partisan court-packing that would shatter public trust in the rule of law.
Looking ahead — the American people elected a Senate that is evenly split at 50-50. To the degree that President Biden received a mandate, it was to govern from the middle, steward our institutions, and unite America. The President must not outsource this important decision to the radical left. The American people deserve a nominee with demonstrated reverence for the written text of our laws and our Constitution.”
Right he is. Brandon is much despised and has no mandate. Even if he did have some form of mandate or another, it wouldn’t be to turn the judiciary into a race-based, affirmative action program where the nation’s largest issues are ruled on by a partisan hack only there because of her chromosomes and melanin.
