Now that America is about $30 trillion in debt and is running deficits over a trillion dollars each year, a level of fiscal irresponsibility that would make our ancestors roll in their graves, what has the government decided to do?
If your answer was “spend money on ridiculous programs in Pakistan,” you’d be right, because that’s exactly what America is doing. After all the outcry over the decision to spend millions on gender programs in Pakistan (I’m sure that was money well spent), the government decided to double down and spend a million more in that backward nation, this time on “climate consciousness.”
Yes, really. Some bureaucrats really thought that was a good idea and handed the American embassy to Pakistan $1.3 million to warn people in Pakistan about the dangers of climate change because it’s such a major problem, one that of course has social justice implications (what doesn’t, now?). In the words of the grant notice:
“Climate change is one of the most significant challenges of this century. As a result of human
activities, we are witnessing warming of the atmosphere, melting sea ice and glaciers, rising sea
levels, and changes in the frequency and intensity of weather patterns, among other phenomena.
Climate change has a profound effect around the globe, with the potential to cause irreversible
alterations to the earth’s habitat, biodiversity and ecosystems. The impact of climate change is
not limited to the environment, though. It affects a country’s socio-economic development,
commerce, transportation, food security, urban planning, public health, farming and energy
production. Further exacerbating the situation is the disproportionate impact of climate change
on women and children, refugees, the poor and other vulnerable minority communities. Urgent
action is needed to tackle the climate crisis and it will require collaborative efforts to gather and
disseminate evidenced-based scientific research to inform policymakers and stakeholders in
national and local governments, academic institutions, and civil society organizations so they
may plan and implement effective climate policies.”
So, apparently, the solution isn’t to press the Chinese and Indians to switch to natural gas or nuclear power rather than coal-fired power plants, nor is it to find ways to transition the rest of the world toward the cleanest fuel of all: nuclear power.
Rather, it’s to hand out millions to some embassy so that an embassy can lecture poor people in Pakistan, a country that the grant notice itself admits “emits less than one percent of global greenhouse gases.”
Oh, and if that didn’t sound wasteful enough, here’s how Just the News reports grant money is being spent in Pakistan:
One grant opportunity, worth up to $100K, will help connect students, experts and “youth influencers” to identify the local challenges caused by climate change, pollution, and resource scarcity. Another grant, this one for $50,000, is available to fund a multiday workshop for 20 representatives from nongovernment organizations and the Punjab provincial government to “mitigate the effects of climate change, specifically severe flooding.” That workshop could be convened in person, online or hybrid, according to the grant description.
Rather than tighten our belts and focus on balancing the budget so that future generations aren’t buried under even larger mountains of debt, our government is handing cash to Pakistani social media influencers so that they can warn people too poor to have running water about the dangers of the evil sun monster.
At this point, the question isn’t if the government will waste money. It’s whether it will light it on fire in the name of pushing Western gender identity, as was done with the millions for gender theory in Pakistan, or if it’ll do so in the name of “the climate,” as now is being done.
