Rep. Ferguson: Brandon and the Democrats are “On the Side of George Wallace”

Brandon, in his speech in Atlanta about “voting rights,” compared everyone who doesn’t support his radical agenda to segregationists and Confederates, saying:

“So I ask every elected official in America, how do you want to be remembered? Do you want to be on the side of Dr. King or George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?”

As could be expected, that speech wasn’t taken kindly by those who don’t want to radically change how America handles elections but also don’t view themselves as segregationists that would sick police dogs on actually peaceful protesters.

So, the pushback has been expectedly severe, with Americans on the right and left roundly condemning Brandon for comparing them to George Wallace.

Further, the comparison isn’t even accurate. For one, all three of the “bad guys” Brandon used in that portion of his speech were Democrats, not Republicans. Further, as Rep. Drew Ferguson told Breitbart in an interview, it’s modern Democrats, not modern Republicans, that subscribe much more to Wallace’s race-based view of the world.

During his interview, Rep. Ferguson, a Republican from Georgia, was asked “Are Republicans trying to make it harder for people to vote because of racism, because they don’t want black Americans [and] Latino Americans to vote? Is that what is driving these voting reforms in Georgia?”

Responding, Ferguson said:

“That could not be further from the truth. Why would we cut off or say that we don’t want people to vote that are naturally becoming Republicans and are beginning to vote Republican? Look at the Hispanic community across the country. They are conservative voters that are now voting Republican. Look at look at what’s happening in Texas and in Florida. The number of new Hispanic voters that are voting Republican is perhaps the fastest growing group.

Look at the number of middle-class African Americans that are now voting Republicans. They are voting with their pocketbook. They are voting for school choice. They’re voting for safe neighborhoods. They are adamantly opposed to the ‘Defund the Police’ movement. Why would we cut those voters off? We want to welcome them into the Republican party. We need their voice. We need their ideas. We need their leadership.”

Then, firmly driving the nail into Brandon’s PR coffin, Rep. Ferguson said “Republicans [are] on the side of Martin Luther King, and Joe Biden and the Democrats are on the side of Democrat George Wallace.

Similarly, GOP Rep. Donalds, who skewered Crazy Maxine Waters for her absurd statements, also hammered Brandon for the George Wallace statement, saying:

George Wallace would never give any kind of praise to me, but he sure did give it to Joe Biden…this is all politics. The Democrats have nothing to run on. Joe Biden has failed America. And because of this, the only place that Democrats always go are to these voting right issues, saying that black people, frankly, aren’t going to have the right to vote. That is a lie.

The message is clear: Brandon completely whiffed his attack on those that won’t sign onto his radical agenda and now it’s bouncing back on him.
