Far-left politicians like Ilhan Omar, AOC, and Rashida Tlaib might love “criminal justice reform” and “bail reform,” by which they mean letting criminals out of jail, but they’re not alone in loving jail break bills.
Criminals, unsurprisingly, love such “reform” bills just as much as the insane leftists, if not more so. And some are even willing to say so openly.
One such criminal supporter of “reform” is Charles Wold, a career criminal that burglarized at least ten businesses.
Now out of jail yet again after being apprehended, he had this to say to the New York Post, speaking to the Post on his mother’s phone:
“I’m grateful for [bail reform] because I’m too old to go to jail, I’m way too old, I can’t do it.”
Then, after telling the Post that freedom “feels good,” he said this:
“Rikers Island is not the key, you know what I’m saying? I’ve been in jail all my life, I can do that standing on my head, it’s not teaching me anything, I can get more drugs in there than I can out here. Hopefully the DA will see that I did not do all these crimes that they are accusing me of and they will get dismissed.”
And Wold is out of jail despite admitting to at least some of the crimes with which he has been charged. Speaking to the Post, he said:
“I might’ve did one or two of ‘em but that was in the beginning of the summer,” the career crook claimed. “I didn’t do all of them.”
But, despite admitting guilt, he refused to take responsibility. Instead, he blamed “addiction” and said it wasn’t his fault:
“People need to understand what addiction is, I don’t want to do crime, I don’t want to hurt people, I don’t want to steal from people.
I really feel really, really bad about my situation and some of the people I have hurt… If I did it, I apologize.”
While Wold is “grateful” for NYC’s jailbreak bill and leftists love it, business owners are furious that criminals that steal from them and make their lives miserable are let out of jail again and again. As the Post reports:
During his arraignment a day later, a judge cut Wold loose because the felony burglary charges weren’t eligible for cash bail and just three days later, he was allegedly back to his old tricks.
Prosecutors say he was caught on surveillance footage on Nov. 28 breaking into the Hipster Deli Grocery in Park Slope and stealing a cash register and over the next nine days, he hit another four businesses, court records show.
“It’s a headache, then the customers come in the next day, we don’t have money, we don’t have machine,” said Hazim Annisafee, the deli’s owner.
Annisafee said he lost between $400 and $600 from the initial burglary and the cost to fix the door and cash register cost him another $1,400.
What leftists forget when they pass these pro-criminal policies is that thugs like Mr. Wold used to be locked up for a reason; they have a deleterious impact on society.
Whether they rape, rob, or murder, they used to be sent to a dark cell somewhere so that they couldn’t inflict the same damage again; their imprisonment keeps society safe, so we locked them up and threw away the key.
It’s high time we remember that and start imprisoning criminals again. Otherwise, career thugs like Mr. Wold will just keep preying on law-abiding citizens.
