President Biden did not have a good go of it during his recent interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, during which he was asked about the potential pitfalls of leaving Afghanistan.
Rather than lie or sound at all intelligent, Biden snapped when asked about the problems of leaving Afghanistan and what might result when we did so. Watch that meltdown here:

As you can hear in the interview, it begins with Holt asking Biden about the evacuation and if he thinks that in pushing the evacuation he “ignored the handwriting on the wall, saying:
“On the subject of American citizens, I have to draw your attention to that Army report, an investigative report that’s come out about the lead up to the withdrawal from Afghanistan,” Holt said. “It interviewed many military officials and officers, who said the administration ignored the handwriting on the wall.
Another describes trying to get folks in the embassy ready to evacuate, encountering people who are in essentially in denial of the situation. Does any of that ring true to you?”
Biden, at that point, could have done anything. He could have denied the existence of the report, could have said he saw it but thought that it was time to end the war anyway, or said that he just didn’t believe the “WMDs in Iraq” intelligence agencies and their predictions.
But that’s not what he did. Instead, he snapped and his brain started melting as he denied everything, saying “No. No. That’s not what I was told.”
At that point Holt pressed him, asking “You were told that the U.S. administration officials were prepared, they knew it was time to get out?”
It was then that Biden said “No, what I was told … no one told me that … look, there was no good time to get out. But if we had not gotten out, they acknowledged that we would have had to put a hell of a lot more troops back in. It wasn’t just 2,000, 4,000. We would have had to significantly increase the number of troops and would be back in this war of attrition.”
It was after that that Holt finally pressed enough Biden to give a definitive statement on the report.
Asking yet again about it, he said “I just want to clarify. Are you rejecting the conclusions or the accounts that are in this Army report?”
“Yes, I am,” Biden responded.
“So they’re [the reports] not true?” the host asked yet again, just to make sure Biden knew what he was talking about and what he was saying.
But Biden didn’t take the opportunity to give himself some room to squirm out of what he was saying later on. Instead, he reaffirmed his statements, saying “I’m rejecting them.”
That’s not what the Washington Post reported about the matter. It, in a recent report, claims that officials at the White House resisted evacuations of personnel and allies for weeks prior to the deadline, leading to chaos when the withdrawal actually occurred.
Given that both the Washington Post and Biden and known for lying, we’ll just have to wait and see which turns out to be telling the truth.
