The RNC sure has taken its time dealing with Liz Cheney, the anti-Trump RINO from Wyoming. Though the Wyoming GOP censured her for her collaboration with the left, particularly over her voting to impeach Trump, the RNC itself hasn’t done much to reign in the ridiculous RINO.
Until now, that is. Whether to revive its popularity among disillusioned MAGA voters or because it’s actually furious with Cheney, the RNC’s resolutions committee voted on Thursday to censure Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. The vote to censure both was unanimous and was precipitated by the involvement of those two in the January 6th Committee, a leftist ploy to make Republicans look bad.
Cheney, predictably, got all indignant about her censure and released a pouty statement, saying:
“The leaders of the Republican Party have made themselves willing hostages to a man who admits he tried to overturn a presidential election and suggests he would pardon Jan. 6 defendants, some of whom have been charged with seditious conspiracy. I’m a constitutional conservative and I do not recognize those in my party who have abandoned the Constitution to embrace Donald Trump. History will be their judge. I will never stop fighting for our constitutional republic. No matter what.”
So not only is she self-aggrandizing, but she wants to lock up the GOP base for sedition. Got it. In fact, the only correct part of her statement is the “history will be their judge” line.
It will be and it will judge the MAGA crowd favorably, as they finally started pushing back against the tyranny of the uniparty. But she should remember that it will judge her too and likely find her character lacking; no one likes a collaborator or Quisling.
Kinzinger responded in much the same way, posturing as a brave defender of the Republic and explaining away his collaborating with the socialists:
“I have no regrets about my decision to uphold my oath of office and defend the Constitution. I will continue to focus my efforts on standing for truth and working to fight the political matrix that’s led us to where we find ourselves today.”
In the case of Cheney, at least, the censure is great might but might be unnecessary. For, though she certainly deserved to be punished for joining the leftist charade and creating a Grand Inquisition for Trump supporters, she might not be in office that much longer.
Why? Because she’s getting primaried in Wyoming and her main competition, future Rep. Hageman, has not only raised a mountain of money to campaign against Cheney but is also already decimating her in the polls.
Given that Wyoming is a ruby red state and Cheney has taken pains to ingratiate herself with the left and scorn Trump voters, it’s unlikely she’ll do well enough in the election to remain a thorn in the GOP’s side.
Instead, she’ll likely be forced out of office and history can start judging her. Harshly.
