Liberal host of HBO’s “Real Time,” Bill Maher, had some strong words of condemnation for his peers in the leftist media machine when speaking with the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro.
Maher, speaking on the topic of the lies of the media, skewered the media figures that were and are unwilling to speak the truth on issues, particularly the issue of health, saying:
“I was talking about this before COVID and got lambasted by James Corden and other people who attacked me. I’m not shaming people. We were never going to solve the health care crisis in this country until we get our arms around this thing. And we’re not allowed to talk about it or else you’re a bad person…anyone who doesn’t.
I’m sorry you have blood on your hands. Anyone in the media who doesn’t talk about this because you’re so afraid of the reaction you have blood on your hands because you’re not doing these people a favor.”
Maher has a point: lies of omission can be as bad as lies of commission, and the media often, indeed frequently, dabbles in lies of omission, only reporting on what fits the narrative.
That’s understandable when it comes to purely partisan political issues, but on the issue Maher is talking about, the issue of obesity and the healthcare crisis, he has a point: all those who push the narrative that being overweight is healthy or anything else like that have blood on their hands.
Shaming people is wrong, as Maher points out, but so is lying to them or just not reporting on the issue. Being obese isn’t healthy and the media shouldn’t delude people into believing otherwise.

That wasn’t all Maher had to say. He also ripped the left as moving away from him in recent years, saying:
“Look I haven’t changed … at all. My politics haven’t changed. They’ve changed.”
“… Five years ago, no one was talking about defunding the police. I never heard that phrase five years ago. That’s not me changing, that’s things changing. I’m reacting to it as I’ve always been.”
“… Letting 3-year-olds decide what gender they are. This wasn’t something five years ago. Free speech, you know, used to be a left-wing thing that we were proud of and owned and now that seems to be under attack, so again, I think I’ve stayed the same.”
Maher is right. The left has gotten crazier and it’s not doing anyone a favor to either avoid the obesity epidemic or to falsely claim that being overweight is healthy.
Perhaps his comments, derided as they will be by the talking heads on the Mainstream Media, will lead to at least some change. Perhaps a few people will grasp how far left the left has moved or realize the truth about health in America.
Then again, perhaps not. The lies have been believed up through now, why would one interview change that?
Still, Maher was speaking the truth and speaking it well. He’s a far-left liberal, but he’s sane, unlike many others on his side.
