British Comedy Legend Silenced for Mocking Woke Agenda

John Cleese is one of the funniest comedians out there. The Monty Python movies are legendary and “A Fish Called Wanda” is one of the best, funniest movies out there.

Well, Cleese, himself quite liberal, also apparently doesn’t bow to the woke and their insane agenda, one particular part of which he thinks is quite dumb.

That part would be reparations, the idea that modern whites should be forced to atone for the sins of their ancestors (as if all whites owned slaves, which is not true) by making reparations payments to modern blacks.

It’s a foolish idea. Not all modern blacks are descendants of slaves and not all modern whites are descendants of slave owners. Even if they were, the idea of blameless modern people having to pay unharmed modern people to atone for some sin of the past is insane.

Well, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Cleese decided to attack that progressive agenda item during a South by Southwest festival even titled ‘John Cleese in Conversation’.

Hitting upon the oppression olympics that have become so common in the modern day, Cleese said, much to the chagrin of the two hosts:

History is a history of crime. It’s a history of people who were stronger beating up people who were weaker and it’s always been that. It’s deeply, deeply distasteful. But to pretend that one lot were worse than another – you do know the British have been slaves twice, right?

“[People] get competitive about this business of being oppressed. We were oppressed, the English, by the Romans for 400 [years], from about 0 to 400.”

Then, after earning testy responses from the two hosts for those remarks, the hosts being upset he was going “way back” to make a point about history, Cleese really infuriated them by joking that he wanted “reparations from Italy,” a joke about the four centuries of Roman domination of Britain.

He could have added that Scandinavia and the Normandy region of France should pay reparations too, as both Vikings and the Normans “oppressed” the British people.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get to those because one of the hosts, Sloan, silenced him by taking away his microphone just after the reparations exchange, keeping Cleese from insulting any other sacred leftist agenda items.

And it wasn’t just the oppression olympics and idea of reparations that Cleese made fun of. He also pointed out that the Brits were far from unique in establishing an empire, saying people “forget the British Empire was the basic political unit of organization for 6,000 years – the British didn’t start [colonising].”

Indeed. Empires and the national glory that stemmed from them were quite common up until quite recently, when they were replaced by whatever America’s system of global domination is, the not-so-hidden empire of the Soviets, and the debt-trap empire of Red China’s Belt and Road.

In any case, it sure was nice to see a Brit stand up for his history; much as the shocked crowd and leftist hosts hated to hear what Cleese said, he needed to say it and they needed to hear it. Reparations are ridiculous; what other sins of history have to be paid for right now?
