The degree to which Elon is now able to set the news cycle simply by tweeting is astounding, being as it is almost as impressive as Trump’s ability to do so. Perhaps if Elon were running for office the two would be equally powerful in that ability.
Regardless, Elon did it again, this time with a throwaway joke tweet about Coca-Cola, saying that he was going to buy that company to put cocaine back in it. In his words:
Next I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in
Next I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 28, 2022
Just a joke, but one apparently popular enough for Business Insider to report on the history of Coke and coke in a recent article, saying:
While Musk’s comments about Coca-Cola were likely tongue-in-cheek, they bear some historical truth.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, cocaine was legal in 1885 when John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, first brewed the drink.
At the time, Pemberton’s recipe included a cocaine extract obtained from coca leaves. He described the drink as a “patent medicine” and “brain tonic and intellectual beverage.”
A 1988 New York Times article on The Coca-Cola Company also reported how cocaine was initially included in the drink but eliminated it by the 1900s.
Interesting stuff, something people might not have known about were it not for Elon’s tweet.
Quickly, however, the whole thing turned into a Hunter Biden joke, with Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeting out:
Has Hunter been asking you for favors?

Then Bill Maher took over the joke, really amplifying the Hunter Biden part of it in a recent tweet of his own, saying:
. @ElonMusk tweeted: “I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in.” It’s all fun and games Elon until Hunter Biden gets his head stuck in the vending machine.

Hilarious! The image of a crack/coke-addicted Hunter Biden getting his head stuck in a White House vending machine, desperately trying to reach one of Elon’s new Coca-Cola’s, is a hard image to get out of one’s head, particularly given the crack photos on the Hunter Biden laptop.
As a reminder, Hunter had a seriously problematic crack-cocaine addiction, one that was both visible in the photos on the Hunter Biden laptop and that he’s discussed with the media, opening up about it both in his memoir and in interviews.
He was also washed out of the Navy Reserve for failing a drug test because he had cocaine in his system.
Coca-Cola wasn’t the only company he joke tweeted about buying. When one person commented and said “can you buy fox I want another season of ‘firefly”’ Elon responded, saying “Some sci-fi that actually features sci-fi would be great.”

Similarly, when someone jokingly said “.@elonmusk should buy the History Channel and make it about history,” Elon responded with a laughing emoji.

Elon has not, however, yet responded to Maher’s joke about Hunter getting his head stuck in the new Coke vending machines, but if he does his reply will surely be hilarious.
