Assuming the GOP red wave does come in November of 2022, as is widely predicted given Slow Joe’s unpopularity and the utter disaster wrought by his policies, the big question is if the Republicans will do what they should and hold the far-left responsible or if they’ll revert to form and back off punishing their political enemies, something the left has never and will never do, in the name of being “principled.”
Well, if Rep. Kevin McCarthy is to be believed, the GOP has finally learned its lesson and is willing to take the fight to the left and hold it, particularly the Biden Administration, responsible for its disastrous policies.
Speaking on that during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Rep. McCarthy said:
“[T]he one thing you have to look at — why is the president’s approval numbers are so low? It’s the wasteful, irresponsible spending that has led to higher prices and inflation.
“It’s the irresponsible actions of this president along the border that has led to an immigration and a fentanyl crisis. It’s the irresponsible policies of this administration that has led to dangerous streets; ineffective schools, and that has got to stop. But it’s got to be more than just to criticize them. What Americans want, need and deserve is a clear, common-sense alternative. And that is what is happening with the House Republicans. We will provide to the American public a commitment to America.”
Then, later, McCarthy again sounded off on Biden and pledged to hold him accountable, saying:
“If you believe these irresponsible policies are wrong, you want a new direction, you want to hold this administration accountable, I believe join with us, and we can hold this administration accountable and make the next century the American century.”
We’ll see if Biden is actually held accountable. While Rep. McCarthy might be telling the truth about his intentions, and could theoretically push them through the House of Reps. if he’s elected Speaker of the House, his likely counterpart in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, is significantly less willing to really take the fight to Biden and fight the left as it fought Trump.
For example, speaking on whether Biden would be impeached for his disastrous handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, McConnell said:
“Well, look the president is not going to be removed from office. I think the way these behaviors get adjusted in this country is at the ballot box. There isn’t going to be an impeachment.”
Why not? The left impeached Trump for far more frivolous reasons than getting Americans killed by pulling out of a twenty-year war in a disastrous way and leaving billions of dollars in military equipment behind for a terrorist group. Why can’t we follow their lead and impeach Biden?
Because McConnell is a weakling who’s unwilling to do what needs to be done. McCarthy, at least, is saying the right things. We’ll see if he follows through and does what’s necessary once he has the power to do so.
