Recently, Governor Abbott of Texas announced that he’d bus illegal immigrants caught in Texas to the Capitol steps in DC as an anti-Biden display, saying in a press conference:
“With the Biden administration ending Title 42 expulsions in May, Texas will be taking its own unprecedented actions this month to do what no state in America has ever done in the history of this country to better secure our state, as well as our nation.
“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed with hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C.
“We are sending them to the United States capital where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”
He added that the policy was coming alongside other measures meant to slow the migrant horde from Mexico, saying that the bussing idea was:
“in addition to announcing the following actions to further deter illegal immigrants, including deploying boat blockades at appropriate regions in the Rio Grande River, deploying razor wire at low-water crossings in high traffic areas, creating container blockades to drive people away from low water crossing.”
Well, FNC’s White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, decided to press Psaki about the idea during the Thursday press conference, asking:
“And the last one on this: Now that the Texas governor is saying that he’s going to start busing border crossers to Washington, D.C., when they get here, are you guys going to help them find a place to stay and something for them to do?”
Psaki fired back with bluster and feigned ignorance, saying:
Well, I’m not aware of what authority the governor would be doing that under. I think it’s pretty clear this is a publicity stunt. His own office admits that a migrant would need to voluntarily be transported and that he can’t compel them to. Because again, enforcement of our country’s immigration laws lies with the federal government, not a state.

She might be right that it’s a publicity stunt, but the latter part of her statement highlights why it’s potentially a necessary one: the enforcement of immigration laws does lie with the feds, not the states, so the feds should be enforcing those laws rather than letting migrant horde that rivals Alaric’s crush past the border and rampage through the United States.
If the feds refuse to restrain those illegals and enforce immigration law, as Team Biden seems to be doing with its utter abdication of responsibility at the border, the governors need to act, particularly those governors like Abbott that govern states most impacted by the masses of migrants.
So, even if Abbott’s idea is a stunt, hopefully it will call yet more attention to the border crisis and wake up more Americans to the problem.
