If you’re an average citizen, what’s the best and quickest response to a thug attempting to rob you? Pulling out your legally-carried handgun and turning the tables on that thug, terminating the threat the thug poses before he has a chance to kill, injure, or rob you.
Such is what recently happened in Philadelphia, where a 24-year-old man was enjoying himself one day, smoking a cigarette outside his house. He was then approached by someone on a bicycle.
Soon, the man’s approach turned threatening, with the bike-riding thug announcing that he intended on robbing the man.
Rather than retreat or hand over his possessions, the cigarette-smoking hero drew his pistol and smoked the thug, firing one shot that hit his assailant in the head, killing him. The man had a permit to carry the firearm and so was within his rights to have the gun on him. Fox, reporting on the incident, adds that:
The robber also allegedly pulled his gun firing one or two shots, which did not strike the victim.
Police say they found him lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.
Two semi-automatic guns were recovered from the scene, as well as the suspect’s bicycle. The robbery victim reportedly remained on scene after the shooting, and is cooperating with police.
Based on the report, it sounds like a clear-cut case of self-defense, particularly given that the thug also fired a shot or two toward the law-abiding citizen.
The story comes as crime has soared in Philadelphia: though homicides in the city are down somewhat compared to the bloodbath that was 2021, during which time 562 murders were reported, the crime rate is still well above where it was before the George Floyd riots and resulting enabling and emboldening of criminals.
In fact, the crime situation there has gotten so bad that, as Bearing Arms reports, “A recent poll by Pew Charitable Trusts found crime and public safety was the number one concern for more than 70% of respondents, with poverty and homelessness a distant second at 14%.”
Such a situation cries out for citizen firearm ownership. As the saying goes, “when seconds count, the police are minutes away.” And that was before police departments became drastically undermanned due to the George Floyd-induced chaos, putting them likely even farther away.
A firearm, by contrast, can be a split second away if kept on your hip, ready to help you defend yourself from the ravages of the criminal elements of society and their predations upon law-abiding citizens.
Hopefully the brave citizen in this story won’t experience Kyle Rittenhouse treatment; this seems to be a clear case of self-defense, one that shouldn’t draw controversy, even if the left tends to side with criminals over the law-abiding men and women forced to defend themselves.
Regardless, however, he’s alive and unharmed. So much can’t be said for many that have chosen to rely on the police rather than a firearm for their defense.
