Over 100 Georgia sheriffs have joined arms and revolted against far-left Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, attacking her for her support of “defund the police” and condemning her for soft on crime policies that they described as harming Georgia families.
They did so in a recently released statement, in which they began by supporting current Georgia governor and GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp, saying that he has stood on the side of law enforcement and worked to lock up criminals and keep Georgia families safe from the predations of those criminals. In their words:
“Over the last four years, Governor Kemp and his family stood shoulder to shoulder with the men and women serving in Georgia’s law enforcement community. Working alongside our departments, Governor Kemp has championed legislation to recruit and retain more officers into the profession, strengthen penalties for criminals and help keep Georgia’s streets safe, and prevent rogue local governments from stripping critical funding and resources from police.”
Continuing, the sheriffs then ripped into Stacey Abrams for her “disdain for law enforcement” and soft on crime policy priorities, saying:
“In stark contrast, Stacey Abrams has repeatedly shown complete disdain for law enforcement and the risk we take every day putting our lives on the line to serve our communities. Ms. Abrams actively serves on the governing board of – and has profited from – an anti-police organization which openly advocates for abolishing prisons and stripping local police departments of their funding.
“Stacey Abrams also supports proposals that put criminals back on our streets and clears their criminal record, and she opposed legislation to crack down on human trafficking when she served in the state legislature.
“These policies and Ms. Abrams’ role in advocating for them put Georgia’s law enforcement officers and the communities we serve at risk.“
Ending, the collection of sheriffs then again attacked Abrams, boosted Governor Kemp, and indicated that Kemp was the tough on crime candidate that they trust to help keep Georgians safe, saying:
“In these uncertain times, it is critical to our profession that Georgia’s leaders stand firmly behind the men and women in law enforcement who keep Georgia families safe. We are grateful to have the support of Governor Kemp and his administration, and we call on Stacey Abrams to disavow the dangerous policies she supports.”
Abrams became a board member of the Marguerite Casey Foundation in 2021, a foundation that has supported groups that oppose the police and support criminals, as the Epoch Times reported, saying:
The foundation’s 2020 financial filing (pdf), available on its website, shows that it has given grants to groups including the Movement for Black Lives and Louisville Community Bail Fund.
Governor Kemp currently leads Abrams in the polls by about five points, though if he’ll be able to rally Trump voters to support him following disputes over how he and his state acted during the 2020 election and weeks of controversy following it, so the sheriff’s statement might be critical for Kemp as he attempts to convince the GOP to hold its nose and vote for him.
