The Ocean City Boardwalk in Maryland briefly turned into a violence-strewn charnel house late on Monday night, with a “serious assault” taking place in which three people were stabbed and had to be flown to local hospitals by helicopter.
Ocean City’s police department, describing the incident in a Twitter thread about the injured and what happened, noting that:
The Ocean City Police Department is on the scene of a serious assault in the area of Wicomico Street and Atlantic Ave. This is an active investigation and we will provide updates as they become available.
Update 1/2 (6/21/22 2:02 a.m.): On June 20, at approx 11:58 p.m., officers responded to the 10-blk of Wicomico St for a report of a fight. Upon arrival officers located 3 victims with stab wounds. Ocean City Fire Department responded to the scene to provide emergency medical care
Update 2/2 One victim was flown to Shock Trauma, a second victim was flown to Christiana Hospital, and the third victim was transported by Ocean City EMS to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital for further treatment.
This investigation is still active at this time.
The police did not, however, report on what actually happened and caused the stabbings, nor did the police note whether the stab victims were participants in the fight, if arrests had been made in connection with the stabbings, or if those hospitalized were purely victims.
The triple stabbing follows a bloody weekend for Baltimore, with Fox News Baltimore reporting that “At least 15 people were shot, and five of those victims were killed in shootings across the city Friday afternoon through Sunday.”
That same Fox Baltimore article quotes Jason Johnson, former deputy commissioner with the Baltimore Police Department, as describing the increase that traditionally accompanies rising summer temperatures in cities, saying:
“When the weather gets warm and school is out people tend to be outside more. It tends to elevate the likelihood of a confrontation that can lead to violence.
“BPD simply doesn’t have the resources to effectively implement law enforcement and policing strategies. I don’t think you’re going to find their plan to be effective.”
And that weekend’s orgy of violence is just part of an already bloody year, with Fox News reporting that “As of Monday, Baltimore police said there have been 166 victims of homicides in the city this year, and 317 nonfatal shootings.”
It’s like Fallujah, Iraq, but without even the pretense of a point, with rampant violence ripping apart the city as ineffective police fail to deal with the issue and city government does its best to ignore it.
Meanwhile, one of the top Democrats, Gavin Newsom, is blaming red states for the rampant violence occurring in blue cities, saying:
There are cities all across the country with those same issues. What’s interesting is how focused we are on a number of California cities. I mean, there was just an analysis of the 65 cities with the highest murder rates. California had two cities. L.A. and San Francisco weren’t even on the list.
And two-thirds of the cities were in Republican states. I mean, you look at the murder rates in the United States of America — this is not to abdicate any of our responsibility here in California — we own it, and we have to take responsibility for doing more, better, but what’s going on with the red state murder problem in America?
