Karine Jean-Pierre, Psaki’s replacement as Slow Joe’s spokesperson, went berserk over Clarence Thomas’ recent comment in the wake of Dobbs, in which he said that the court’s treatment of issues like marriage should be reconsidered in the wake of its demolishing Roe,
Specifically, he said, in his concurring opinion in Dobbs, that:
“[T]he Due Process Clause at most guarantees process,” he wrote. “It does not, as the Court’s substantive due process cases suppose, ‘forbi[d] the government to infringe certain “fundamental” liberty interests at all, no matter what process is provided.’
“[I]n future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell. Because any substantive due process decision is ‘demonstrably erroneous,’ we have a duty to ‘correct the error’ established in those precedents.”
Now that’s a stunning pronouncement, one that should give conservatives more even more hope that the conservative-dominated Supreme Court could take a wrecking ball to all the totems and pillars of the progressive agenda.
Well, as could be predicted, Jean-Pierre, a lesbian, was less than enthused with Thomas’ opinion and the idea that gay marriage could be destroyed by a conservative court.
And so, speaking to Nicolle Wallace on Deadline: White House, Jean-Pierre went crazy about the situation.
That angry rant started with Nicolle Wallace giving her take on what Thomas said and the implications, saying:
Karine, Justice Thomas told us what he is going to look at next. He’s going to look at everything that falls under the protections that protected Roe for 50 years.
It includes same-sex relationships, same-sex marriage, and contraception. Does that what Dahlia Lithwick described as Clarence Thomas saying the quiet part out loud — we can assume they watch some of the network that champions that in their house.
Does that change any of the conversations inside the West Wing about court reform?
Jean-Pierre, as normal, didn’t answer the question. Instead, she went crazy and started giving her personal opinions on the issue, saying:
So, let me — so, let me just say this about what Thomas said, Clarence Thomas said today.
It is chilling. What he wrote is absolutely chilling. If that were to happen, Nicolle, that would, for sure, for sure, change this country for decades, I mean, change it by generations.
And it is — it will be incredibly stunning how this would affect us as a country. And here’s the thing. We have to listen. We have to make sure we hear very clearly what this extreme side…these extreme Republicans are saying, because they have an agenda. I have never — I can’t think of a more dangerous agenda to put forth.
Nothing more “dangerous” than stopping abortion and reversing decisions at odds with what the Founders intended? How so? She didn’t say, as explaining how not killing babies is more dangerous than killing babies doesn’t make much sense, nor does it make sense how preserving marriage as it was understood for most of human history is “dangerous”.
In any case, she continued, calling on people to make their “voices heard” (much as Trump did, and was impeached for…), saying:
And so this is why, again, we have to make sure that we do — in light of this decision today, we have to make sure that we have our voices heard, that we take this to the ballot box, and make sure that we have congressional members who are going to fight and protect — protect the rights that have now been taken away because of this extreme ruling that we saw today.
Then she finally got to what Biden is doing, which is what Wallace originally asked, saying:
As for us, your question, Nicolle, about the courts, the president’s been very clear. He is not for expanding the courts. He — this is an incredibly dangerous ruling that we heard. He does not agree with it at all, clearly. And we feel that this is, again, an extreme ruling, but we have to act. This is a time to take action.
That’s what the president was doing today, calling on folks to take action, calling on Congress to take action, and calling on folks to make sure that their voices are heard at the ballot box this coming November.
So Team Biden and its apparatchiks are quite upset: time to break out the liberal tears tumblers!
