According to recently released campaign expense documents, Eric Swalwell, the California Democrat who is known for dating Fang Fang the Chinese spy, farting while being interviewed, and for pushing radical gun control proposals, spent tens of thousands of dollars on travel expenses in just a few weeks, shelling out the big bucks on flights and hotels in tourist hot spots like Miami and Paris.

News on the nature of the expenses and what exactly Swalwell’s campaign was spending money on comes from Fox News, which reported that:
California Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell’s campaign dropped nearly $60,000 on travel expenses in just six weeks, including at a Miami Beach hot spot and hotel in Paris, France, campaign finance records show.
[…]Swalwell’s campaign, which consists of two paid staffers, dropped thousands at luxury hotels in prime vacation spots, including $4,708 at Loews Miami Beach, where rooms cost customers between $400 for city room views and $3,700 for the presidential suite, its website shows.
Perhaps most ridiculous was the $1,752 that the Swalwell shelled out for a stay at the five-star Hotel La Maison Champs-Elysées, which is in Paris, France. What campaigning Swalwell needed to do in Paris is unclear, but hopefully the campaign didn’t get fined for flatulent Swalwell leaving a stink in the room.
For reference as to how high-end that hotel is, its homepage describes it as being “in the heart of Paris’ ‘Golden Triangle“‘ and as being “an elegant marriage of contemporary lines and unobtrusive luxury, this very special non-conformist hotel teases our expectations, with theatrical elements, a subtle, relaxed atmosphere, and attentive staff.”
So Swalwell’s campaign has good taste in hotels, or at least expensive taste. Adding to that hotel bill are the aforementioned thousands spent on a luxury Miami hotel, another spot that doesn’t make much sense for a California Congressman’s campaign to be spending money.
Adding to the tally of Swalwell’s campaign’s tens of thousands in expenses are the thousands that he spent on ride services like Uber and plane tickets, though those are more explainable given the travel needs of a Congressman, particularly one flying from California to D.C.
But even some of those are seemingly indefensible, at least without a seriously creative defense from the campaign, with Swalwell’s campaign having spent $6,000 on a limo service and over a thousand dollars on Alaska Airlines travel.
The new expenditures follow a lavish spending pattern from the California Democrat. Last year, Swalwell’s campaign dropped tens of thousands of dollars on booze and limousine services, and he also spent over $20,000 at the luxury hotel where his wife used to work.
Swalwell must have decided to make Boss Tweed the political figure he hopes to mimic, as he sure seems to be comfortable spending on luxuries that would make even a corrupt, Gilded Age congressman blush.
