Vice President Kamala Harris is, despite her many flaws, not senile. The current 1600 Penn resident, however, isn’t so obviously mentally competent, and so it might make sense for Kamala to try and invoke the 25th Amendment and get Slow Joe removed from office.
So far, however, she hasn’t done so. According to former Clinton strategist Dick Morris, that’s because Team Biden staffers are leaking damaging stories or comments about Kamala to try and stop her from invoking the 25th Amendment and replacing Biden, who’s clearly not at the peak of his mental acuity anymore.
Morris said as much when appearing for a recently resurfaced radio interview in July of 2021, an interview in which he cited a then-new New York Times article, saying that the article “talks about how Harris is not ready for prime time. She was antagonizing her staff. She screwed up on the trip to the border.”
Explaining why that article was important and what it shows about the infighting going on within the White House, noted that the attacks on Kamala “must have undoubtedly come from the Biden forces.”
He then continued and connected that article to other rumors he was hearing at the time, saying:
“[T]he rumor I keep hearing from sources close to the White House is that Biden is getting worse. That the dementia is really becoming noticeable and harder to control and harder to camouflage. I believe there may be a move coming to invoke the 25th Amendment against Biden and replace him with Harris.”
Continuing, Morris explained that “Biden’s people are pushing back against it by shooting at Harris and saying that she’s not really ready to be president.” He then added that “the only reason for them to do that [is to push back] against the 25th Amendment coup.”
What’s more, Morris called the feeling of panic in Democrat circles about a year before other started picking up on how dire the midterm situation for Democrats is, saying:
“the Democrats are realizing they’re cooked in 2022… They will lose the House. The Senate, they might also lose. I think that there is a sense of panic among Democrats. And as Biden gets worse, the movement to replace him under the 25th amendment might grow.”
Problem is, whether they keep Biden propped up by continuing to attack Kamala and thus stave off her expected 25th Amendment assault or let her sweep into power and depose Biden with the 25th, it seems unlikely that those prospects would improve.
Biden is getting mentally weaker by the day, obviously, but though he’s terrible Kamala has even lower approval ratings, making it unlikely that Democrats would back her takeover attempt.
So, though Morris might be right in noting that “all is not happy in the Biden-Harris relationship,” it seems unlikely that unease and infighting will lead to a more obvious power struggle between the two, as nothing would be achieved by doing so.
