How is anti-DeSantis, pro-gay Disney doing right now? Now great, and that’s before even looking at its stomach-churning financial losses.
No, Disney just got hit with something even more embarrassing, if not as bad for its balance sheet: a former Disney channel actor, Stoney Westmoreland, was caught by police trying to lure a 13-year-old kid into having sex with him, which are bad optics for a company already hit with the “groomer” moniker.
Deadline, reporting on the scandal and crime, reported that “Stoney Westmoreland, who played the grandfather on Disney Channel sitcom Andi Mack until he was fired amid allegations of trying to arrange online to have sex with a 13-year-old, has been charged with six felony counts involving the case.”
Adding to that, Deadline updated the article after Westmoreland was sentenced, reporting that:
Stoney Westmoreland, charged with attempting to lure a minor into sex, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison and ten years of supervised release. Westmoreland copped a plea deal with prosecutors after the actor originally faced a ten year sentence,. But he was allowed to plead down to a lesser charge of using interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor.
The sentence seems light for a guy who was caught trying to commit statutory rape and found guilty of it, but at least a former Disney actor who turns out to be a child predator will be off the streets for a while.
Further, it wasn’t just that the former Disney actor tried to meet someone for sex. Rather, the degenerate had messaged what he thought was a 13-year-old boy on Grindr (but was really a police detective), the gay dating app known for encouraging promiscuity, and sent the boy explicit messages and photos. Creepily, the show Westmoreland starred in mainly followed a 13-year-old girl, the same age of the person on the fake Grindr account.
It was then that he attempted to meet the minor to have sex, planning to meet him at a hotel room in which the police found multiple sex toys.
Now that he has been sentenced for the crime, the former Disney actor will have to register as a sex offender, submit his electronics to random searches by police, submit his DNA to the police, and otherwise deal with all the restrictions and burdens that come with being a sex offender.
Worst of all for Disney is that Westmoreland was still employed by the company when caught in a ride-sharing vehicle trying to meet the boy, who fortunately turned out to be a police detective. Deadline, reporting on that aspect of the sickening case, said:
Salt Lake City prosecutors said Westmoreland, 48, found a Grindr profile operated by a police detective near where the Disney Channel sitcom is filmed. According to court documents, on December 13 the actor took a ridesharing service to meet the boy to take him back to his hotel room. He was arrested that day, and Disney cut ties with him hours later.
Disney, commenting on the arrest at the time, said:
“Stoney Westmoreland, an actor working on the series ‘Andi Mack,’ was arrested in Salt Lake City today. Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week.”
So Westmoreland is the sort of person employed by Disney. If the supporting “groomers” bit wasn’t enough to make you stop patronizing the company, just think about Westmoreland the next time you take your kids to a Disney theme park or store.
