While much of the culture war battles that define the direction America is headed in take place online, some aspects of it just can’t be fully won by remaining purely on the internet.
One such issue is schooling; conservatives tend to support in-person learning, particularly after seeing the disaster that was “online education” in the Covid years, but also both distrust teachers and don’t want to become them.
Hence a problem: conservatives tend to want to avoid sending their kids to the lions’ den of liberalism that is government schooling, but also want them to actually get an education, making online schooling a less than ideal option.
The only real solutions for that are homeschooling and some private schools, though many are just as bad on the culture war front as public schools, if not worse, and the expense associated with those doesn’t fit into the financial requirements of most families.
Well now Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point might have solved that problem, particularly the leftism in education part, for families in Phoenix, as it just announced that it is launching Turning Point Academy.
TP Academy will be a traditional brick-and-mortar school that will be working in collaboration with Dream City Christian to open this upcoming fall and enroll about 600 students.
Announcing that new project on the Turning Point website, Kirk’s organization said:
The Left has permeated American institutions at every turn, poisoning American youth against our great nation. In our taxpayer-funded public schools, young people are taught that America is fundamentally evil, that government is always the answer, and that the free-enterprise system is immoral.
Today’s classroom curricula promote a false narrative about America instead of celebrating its remarkable achievements and its foundational values: free people, free enterprise, and free speech.
This anti-American ideology threatens to destroy our country’s institutions and freedom.
To combat this malicious trend and educate generations of young people who love America, Turning Point USA is excited to announce our newest initiative: Turning Point Academy, coming Fall 2021!
Turning Point Academy will develop and distribute K-12 curricula focused on American history, our founding principles, the Constitution, and economics. These curricula will help all educators, including homeschool parents, provide their children and students with a reliable, honest, and quality America-first education—all at NO COST.
Turning Point Academy will also train thousands of educators nationwide on how to use Turning Point Academy curricular in their classroom and how they can adopt new lessons to help transform the way our young people perceive freedom, government, and free enterprise.
Turning Point Academy is America’s best hope to inspire countless young people to love America again.
The “Fall 2021” point is a typo: the schools are opening this fall, 2022. Given that it’s an educational institution, it probably needs to correct that.
Regardless, the school seems like it will be a hugely beneficial project for America’s children, particularly when its “principles” are consulted. Those are:
To never waver from the truth and to teach self-government and liberty to students.
CRT, postmodernism, “Wokeism,” deconstructionism, queer theory, radical LGBT agendas, and anti-American ideas such as the 1619 project will have no place at our institution.
Rejecting grade inflation and the erasure of advanced placement and honors studies, we believe students must work hard through challenging environments to develop a strong character and the necessary tools to succeed.
We believe in God’s promise that all are created equal. No one will be treated preferably or differently based on the color of their skin or any other immutable characteristics. We believe that character is what defines a human.
We will raise a generation of courageous leaders. We believe that the next generation must understand how to be bold and brave enough to protect the weak, to preserve the good, and to forge the future.
We will inspire gratitude in a generation that is so often unthankful to live in our country. We will teach our students to be proud citizens and compelled toward action. We will teach honest history that elevates our heroes and speaks openly about our failures.
In launching Turning Point Academy, Kirk has broken new ground in the culture war and opened a new front against the left in what might be the most effective way of all: by fighting for the minds of the youth.
