How are things going over at ABC’s “The View”? About the same as normal: now one of the show’s cohosts is going insane over the idea that Republicans generally think that the 2nd Amendment means what it says, which is that the right to keep and bear arms “shall not be infringed.”
That host would be Sunny Hostin, who lost it when finding out that the GOP won’t support gun control despite there having been a mass shooting recently, with co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg joining her in attacking repeat guest Lindsey Granger.
The sparks really began to fly when Hostin accused Republicans of not having a conscience because they dare to defend gun rights, saying:
I think Republicans need to find a conscience! Because when this happened in New Zealand, when this happened in Christchurch and you had an act of terrorism, those automatic weapons were gone. And guess what? That was in 2019. And this didn’t happen again.”
As a side note, there were no “automatic weapons” involved. The gun used was an AR-15 style rifle, which is semi-automatic, not automatic.
An automatic weapon will fire as long as there is ammunition in the magazine and the trigger is held down. A semi-automatic weapon will only fire once per trigger pull. Automatic weapons are difficult to own in America due to the FDR-era National Firearms Act, which requires one to get special approval to own one.
In any case, Joy Behar agreed with Hostin, saying “that’s right”, despite Hostin objectively not being right in even her basic facts, and then Hostin continued her rant about the necessity of gun control and how evil Republicans are, saying:
They enacted legislation and it was over. Why can’t Republicans fine their conscience? Why can’t they find their hearts? And why can’t they get this done? I don’t care about the imperfect being being the enemy of good. What about right and wrong?
Linsey Granger, being the voice of reason in the den of clucking hens, if not an actual conservative, pushed back on what Hostin was calling for, saying it was unreasonable. In her words:
What about realistic? I want to get something done though, Sunny, I agree with you. There is right is right and wrong is wrong, but I would like to get something done here —
That’s when Hostin rudely interrupted and jumped back in with the insults, saying:
Your party is sick! Your party is sick!
All in all, it was a typically vapid View performance, with hosts ranting about issues about which they know little, though at least Granger was there to point out, if only for a moment, how absurd Hostin was being, drawing attention to the fact that her gun control demands are far from what the reasonable American supports.
Perhaps next time they can invite fake moderate Matthew McConaughey on instead so that the “moderate” guest will agree with the delusions of the clucking hens.
