Will the 2024 presidential race just be a repeat of 2020, albeit without Covid-19 lockdowns (hopefully, that is) or the George Floyd riots (again, hopefully)? It’s looking increasingly like that’s the case, as both President Slow Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have indicated that they plan on running again in 2024.
The first report of Biden’s plans for 2024 came from Slow Joe himself, who told ABC in December of 2021 “Why would I not run against Donald Trump as the nominee? That would increase the prospect of running.”
Then, months later, another report that Biden was planning on running again came out. That one came from The Hill, which cited two anonymous sources in April and reported that Biden told Obama he plans on running again. In that outlet’s words:
President Biden has told former President Obama that he is planning to run for reelection in 2024, two sources tell The Hill.
[…] “[Biden] wants to run and he’s clearly letting everyone know,” said one of the two sources familiar with the conversations between Obama and Biden.
Further information on Biden’s 2024 plans came in June from Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, who said:
“He hasn’t – first of all, let’s let’s reset for a second. I cannot talk about elections. I cannot be a political analyst from here, or, you know, or the midterms or anything like that, including 2024. The President, as you know, has been asked that question many times, and he has answered it.
“His answer has been pretty simple. Which is yes, he’s running for reelection. I can’t say more than that.”
She also tweeted that out, saying:
To be clear, as the President has said repeatedly, he plans to run in 2024.

And now Biden’s transportation secretary, “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg, appeared on Fox News Sunday and said that Biden intends on running in 2024 and that he will support Biden’s bid for the presidency. In his words:
“Yes, I do expect him to run. I’ll support him. And let me tell you why he’s going to have a lot to be proud of, and I’m going to choose my words carefully because I’m appearing as an official and this is not a campaign-related appearance.”
Adding to that, he desperately attempted to make the Biden Administration sound like a success so far, saying:
“But I’m proud to be part of this administration that has done such work to bring America back from the brink of a recession, to create record job growth, to build achievements that would not have been thought possible just a couple of years ago, like the bipartisan infrastructure law that I have the honor of working on.
“You know, people scoffed at the idea that you could get anything done on a bipartisan basis in Washington, and yet the President delivered it, and that’s after years and years, multiple presidents, multiple Congresses coming and going, promising infrastructure bills without any results. This president, this administration, got it done and I’m proud to be part of that.”
Trump also reportedly intends on running, so perhaps 2024 will just be 2020 all over again,
