Elisjsha Dicken is the 22-year-old who was the armed hero at the Greenwood Mall that managed to stop a mass shooting in the Indiana mall before it had progressed for too long. Unlike many others who might have fled even if armed, Elisjsha fought back: he drew his handgun and fired ten rounds at a range of about 40 yards to take down the mass shooter.
Most who have commented on the incident have referred to him as a hero. The local police chief, for example, called him the hero of the day, saying:
“The real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began.”
And the chief was right to say that. Elisjsha is an armed citizen who responded to the horrific event, fighting back rather than cowering and letting the gunman wreak havoc and slaughter those shopping at the mall or eating at the food court.
But not everyone who commented on the issue recognized the reality of the situation and cheered the young man for stepping up and defending his fellow Americans.
One anti-gun group, in fact, the Brady: United Against Gun Violence, attacked Elisjsha, referring to him as a “vigilante” in a statement on the incident.
That group made the horrific statement on Twitter, with its president, Kris Brown, saying:
Here’s what we’re not going to do: continue to uplift the NRA myth of a “good guy with a gun.”
Let me be clear: If more guns made us safer, America would be the safest country in the WORLD.
We need sensible gun laws, not vigilante safety nets. #GreenwoodMall #GunReformNow
Commenters were quick to rip Brown and the anti-gun organization for that comment, here are some of the best comments:
“Imagine using a Greenwood Mall hashtag to promote disarming good people when it was an armed person who saved many lives by shooting the murderer. The Gun Ban Lobby is incapable of acknowledging that it’s good to stop a murderer by shooting him, no matter what clothing you wear.”
“K so Mexico has more gun control than California and yet is a murder hell hole.So…maybe…just maybe…guns aren’t the problem and culture, government, drugs, etc… are a far bigger issue.”
“Here’s what we’re not going to do: Give up our guns to the government or liberals. There is no compromise or negotiation.”
“If gun laws worked, we wouldn’t have big cities with high homicide rates surrounded by municipalities with relatively low homicide rates. I realize your job is to get more gun laws passed, rather than find solutions to gun violence, but calm down on the what we’re not gonna do.”
“Most of rural and small town America is as safe as Scandinavia. If you want to end gun crime, wall off the big cities and let them decay into forest.”
“He should have waited for the cops to arrive. More lives could’ve been sacrificed for The Narrative. Is that what you meant?”
