LOL: This Biden Statement Has Newsom “Seething”

According to a hilarious new report in Politico, the speech that President Brandon the Senile just gave in California has the Golden State’s greasy governor, Gavin Newsom, “seething.”

What did Biden say? That farmworkers in California should be able to unionize, something that would give the currently poorly paid, mostly migrant workers a larger degree of power to resist the demands of California’s oligarchs, people such as Newsom. In Biden’s words:

I strongly support California’s Agricultural Labor Relations Voting Choice Act (AB 2183), which will give California’s agricultural workers greater opportunity to organize and collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. Farmworkers worked tirelessly and at great personal risk to keep food on America’s tables during the pandemic. In the state with the largest population of farmworkers, the least we owe them is an easier path to make a free and fair choice to organize a union. I am grateful to California’s elected officials and union leaders for leading the way.

Government should work to remove – not erect – barriers to workers organizing. But ultimately workers must make the choice whether to organize a union.

Unions transform how we work and live: higher wages, better benefits, like health insurance and paid leave, protections against discrimination and harassment, and a safer and healthier workplace. Unions built the middle class. And, unions give workers a voice. Workers’ voices are heard and heeded. Organizing or joining a union, that’s democracy in action. And it’s especially important today for Black and Brown workers whose voices have long been silenced through shameful race-based laws and policies. 

Well, reasonable as that might be to some and as schadenfreude-creating as the idea of thinking that the California oligarchs might get screwed over by some farmerworker’s union organizing the very cheap laborers that those oligarchs have imported to America’s detriment, not everyone is on board.

Politico, reporting on what Biden said and the consequences of it, said:

The governor is privately seething over the Biden endorsement, said five people with knowledge of the governor’s thinking who spoke on condition of anonymity to disclose internal discussions. Newsom’s office declined to comment for this story.

Biden headlines a growing list of top Democratic officials who have backed the measure, including Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Now, Newsom must choose between the state’s powerful agricultural interests and a celebrated union — all while under a glaring national spotlight amid intense speculation about his presidential ambitions that he stoked with recent high-profile sparring with Republican governors.

Hilarious stuff. Now Brandon, by backing some minor measure meant for the strawberry-pickers in California, many of whom aren’t even Americans, has set up one of the ascendant Democrats for a decision that will dim his prospects nationally no matter what he chooses.

Newsom can either now back the measure, and sign up with the Biden/Pelosi wing while presenting himself as a friend of labor, losing the big money oligarchs that might fund his campaign in the process, or can side with the Chamber of Commerce oligarchs and get skewered by the leftist press for helping “oppress” migrant workers.

There’s no good way out and he has only Brandon to thank for his predicament. Awesome stuff.
