Bob Chapek’s time at Disney may be over, but that doesn’t mean that wokeness went away with him. The fact that Disney’s latest movie is a story-packed disaster shows that.
A studio that used to make movies like “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin” is now making movies like “Strange World.” The movie cost $180 million to make but only made $4.2 on its first day, which was Wednesday. The Daily Wire says that the movie is expected to make just over $20 million over the five-day holiday weekend.
The Daily Wire said that the animated movie pushes sexual orientation and climate change agendas and is “on track to be Disney’s latest over-woke nightmare” because of this.
“Woke” doesn’t even come close to describing it. The Daily Wire wrote that the screen shows more than just sexual orientation and stories. It is almost everything.
“Strange World” tells the story of gay teen Ethan, voiced by Jaboukie Young-White, who has the support of his loving, biracial parents, Searcher (Jake Gyllenhaal), and Meridian (Gabrielle Union). The family rejects its fabled heritage as explorers to farm, but ends up pulled back into the family business to hunt for Searcher’s father, Jaeger (Dennis Quaid), who went missing when he was a child. Their search, aided by their disabled dog, takes them to Avalonia, a strange world with a fragile ecosystem. Ethan struggles to get past his shyness around his love interest, a boy named Diazo.
Seattle Times critic Soren Andersen wrote that the film features an “uneasy marriage of clunky psychodrama and overwrought special effects” that made it “a chore to sit through.”
A tweet from Rosie’s Offensive Dinner Guest lists the woke agenda in the failed film:
- Main character is gay
- Biracial couple
- No white people
- Climate Change metaphor
- Even the dog is disabled

Disney just won’t learn its lesson, and it seems determined to put bad messages ahead of basic profits. Chapek, who has since been fired as CEO, even denied that Disney was woke right before he was fired (probably by a board of shareholders who thought otherwise):
Chapek said at a tech summit, “I think the more complex something is, the more you really have to drill down into the basics. And we want our content to reflect the rich, diverse world that we live in,” he said in response to the claim that Disney had lost touch with families. “And, again, I guess that’s another way of saying, ‘Catering to your audience.’ But the world is a rich, diverse place and we want our content to reflect that. And we’re so blessed to have the greatest content creators and they see it similarly.”
Last spring, Ron DeSantis of Florida attacked Disney’s tax rights and took a stand for parents’ rights against “woke” indoctrination in public schools. Breitbart described Chapek’s spineless response to this as follows:
In his groveling mea culpa, Chapek said he needed to be a “stronger ally” to the company’s gay and transgender employees. He also falsely referred to the legislation as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill — a smear created by Democrats and dutifully propagated by the news media — claiming it poses a “challenge to basic human rights.”
