A UK court heard that a new mom died after taking cocaine on her first night out after giving birth. Becky Tollan, who was 23 years old, died on July 15, 2019, at a house in Lanarkshire, Scotland. She had been partying with her sister-in-law and two men she met at a local pub.
Barry McAuley, age 40, and Martin Stewart, age 34, have been charged with culpable homicide for giving the Class A drug to Tollan. The trial of the two people started on Wednesday, when Tollan’s sister-in-law, Pamela Tollan, took the stand to talk about the sad death of the brunette.
According to the Mirror, Pamela told the court in tears, “Becky started shaking. I just thought she was cold to start with. I was saying: ‘What is happening to her?’ I was shouting: ‘Becky! Becky!’ “
Pamela said that she and Tollan went to a bar on the evening of July 14. The new mom was excited about her first social event since giving birth to a baby boy just a few weeks earlier. Two drinks came to the table where the two were sitting alone. McAuley and Stewart were said to have ordered them.
After that, the women went over to talk to the two men, and soon after, they started drinking with them. Pamela told the judge that Tollan then asked the men if they had any “stuff.”
The devastated sister-in-law said, “I knew exactly what she meant…asking if they had any cocaine.”
One of the men is said to have given Tollan a “wee bag” of the drug before he went to the bathroom to supposedly take it. Later, the group moved to a house nearby, where the new mom is said to have used more drugs.

“Becky was her own person. No matter how much you told her, she would not listen,” Pamela said. “I did tell her: ‘You do not need it … you are having a good time’. I told her to stop because you do not need it.”
Pamela and Tollan had been at the home for a while and were about to leave when the new mom started shaking.
Stewart, who is accused of giving Tollan the drugs, is said to have asked Pamela if Tollan had “epilepsy.”
“I said no.” Pamela continued, “He put her in the recovery position.” She said that Tollan was “constantly” fitting and bleeding from the mouth because she had bit her own tongue.
Emergency crews were called to the house, but they couldn’t save the new mother. On July 15, she was pronounced dead.
Pamela told the court that her sister-in-law had not used drugs or alcohol while she was pregnant, so her body may have been too tired on her first night out after giving birth.McAuley and Stewart have both said they are not guilty of being responsible for a death. The trial goes on.
