Thanksgiving is the holiday when families come together in love and fellowship, giving thanks for their many blessings while feasting to their heart’s content.  Not so with the Denio family.  From Fox News, a New Mexico man was arrested Thursday after allegedly killing his wife with a knife and dismembering her body.  This holiday will never be the same for this family.

Karlan Denio, 62, was found in bed by his family with his wife Connie’s body on the floor. This was just before the family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Then, they called the police. According to a criminal complaint that the Albuquerque Journal obtained, Denio was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder.

Before the family dinner, Denio’s brother was the first to arrive at the Denio home, but he couldn’t get in and couldn’t get in touch with Denio. Then he called his sister, and she told the police about the strange situation. The police told the siblings that they couldn’t break into the house.

The siblings then drove to the Denio home together. While they waited for police to arrive, they tried knocking on doors and windows. They finally got into the house through the garage.

Denio’s sister went to his house and saw that it was dark inside. She then found her brother near the body of her sister-in-law.

The complaint read, “Karlan looked at her, at which point [she] backed out of the residence and called police again.”

Officers who came to the house said they found Connie’s body in the bedroom “dismembered and disemboweled.” Denio had cuts on his leg and neck, so he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Relatives told police that Denio was given a diagnosis of FTD (frontotemporal dementia) two years ago.
