Even though I don’t like it when people suddenly lose their jobs because it’s one of the worst feelings in the world, (I know because I’ve been there), it felt good to see the Twitter employees who had been censoring and silencing anyone who annoyed them in the slightest get fired.
Twitter has become a lot more fun, interactive, and less annoying since they lost their power and were kicked out on the street. Even though other people’s experiences may be different, Twitter is starting to look like a real digital town square instead of a place where the conversation is run by people who have no right to be in charge.
This includes the “trending” list, which seems to show things that people are interested in right now that have nothing to do with politics. As RedState talked about in a video on Thursday, the trending list is no longer the leftist hellscape it used to be. Now, it has things like sports and entertainment that people really care about.
Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, is doing something that has never been done before in social media: he is treating people like adults.
This tweet from Elon Musk was really impressive:
Complaint hotline operator online! Please mention your complaints below.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 9, 2022
He was joking about being a complaint hotline operator, but the truth behind the joke was that he’s willing to sit down and listen to what people have to say about what they want from the network, what’s working, and what’s not. He did this because he wants the site to be a great user experience.
This is a big change from the way the company was run before when it was clear that the government and whatever leftist trend was going on at the time were in charge.
Musk is paying attention when others just don’t. They tell you to pay attention, and he’s happy to talk. He talks to users all the time, and it’s clear that he’s taking notes. He is willing to try different things and see what works and what doesn’t.
This isn’t talked about at all because the old media is doing everything it can to sell the idea that Musk is only bad. It’s not true. I think Twitter will only get better from here on out. Yes, there will be speed bumps, but if the goal is a town square where everyone, no matter what party they belong to, can be heard, then this is the way to go.
I think Musk is making Twitter great. I really hope other sites follow his lead.
