A county in Arizona is being sued because its election officials have refused to certify the election’s results on November 8. The complainant, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Katie Hobbs, pronounced the winner against Republican competitor Kari Lake, adding a new dimension to the case.
Hobbs announced the lawsuit on Monday through Twitter. “Cochise County had a statutory duty to certify the results of the 2022 General Election by today. My office has filed a lawsuit to ensure all voters have their votes [count].”
Lake has not accepted Hobbs’s election victory, and her campaign account expressed displeasure with the strategy.
In response to Hobbs’ tweet, the account said, “This is an egregious abuse of power but when has that ever stopped you before?”

Many Arizona voters and Lake’s campaign staff have voiced concerns about possible election-day irregularities.
Officials in Maricopa County, Arizona, have responded to the allegations, stating they are unfounded and that county election officials acted in accordance with state law. The county recognized Hobbs as the victor in the election earlier this week, giving him a victory margin of approximately 17,000.
It has been speculated that Lake may be considered for Trump’s running mate after she was photographed visiting his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, last week, just days after he declared his candidacy for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.
There was a roar of applause as Lake walked into the America First Policy Institute lunch. Additionally, she discussed the Arizona election and its possible outcomes in a few sentences.
While running for governor, Lake was often mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for Trump, despite her stated intention to complete her term in office. The Post remarked, “Now that she’s been defeated for state office, her political path is less clear.”
Conservatives were pleased to see Trump and Lake in attendance but incredibly excited to see Lake there.
‘Trump, Kari Lake, Bolsonaro – let’s go,’ the caption of a tweet including a photo of the President and Lake read.

“@KariLake if worse comes to worse, Kari Lake will be available to campaign full-time for Vice President of the United States 2024,” wrote another person.
“Such a special night at Mar-a-Lago with an amazing group of supporters and everyone’s favorite President. Thank you, President Trump for your incredible support and endorsement. We love you!” Lake herself tweeted along with several photos.

A few times after the gubernatorial race was called, Lake tweeted, “Arizonans know BS when they see it.”
Since several news outlets have declared Hobbs the victor of the recent election, Lake has filed a lawsuit against Maricopa County election officials to obtain records. The Associated Press reports that Hobbs has a lead of almost 17,000 votes over Lake, but Lake has not yet conceded.
In this case, it is stated that”
Plaintiff desires that every lawful vote be properly counted and every voter who was eligible to vote be allowed to vote. Unfortunately, due to Defendants’ failures, many eligible voters may not have been able to vote. Because Defendants were unable or unwilling to conduct a reconciliation of voter check ins against ballots cast of each polling center on election night in accordance with Arizona law and have now unlawfully refused to produce public records in response to two public records requests regarding how they administered the election, Plaintiff cannot determine that every lawful vote will be properly counted. The records Plaintiff requested in response to the numerous issues with Defendants’administration of the election are consistent with a parallel demand by the Arizona Attorney General for answers to questions about the Defendants’ actions.
The lawsuit was filed in Arizona Superior Court and names Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer and other public officials as defendants. In addition, the case requests the immediate release of documents related to the administration of the elections, which highlighted extensive difficulties in the state’s largest county, as reported by The Epoch Times.
