Former President Donald J. Trump exploded on the Reps. Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, and Adam Schiff-dominated January 6th Committee, describing the Congressional Committee as a “kangaroo court” in a statement released by his campaign. Newsmax, reporting on the statement, noted that:
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign blasted the House Jan. 6 select committee on Monday for being a “Kangaroo court” that “makes a mockery of democracy.”
In a statement released Monday by Trump’s campaign, the former president emphasized that the select committee “is not Bipartisan,” noting that “only Democrats and never Trumpers participated in the sham investigation.”
Emphasizing that point, the Trump campaign statement also said “Nancy Pelosi refused to accept two Republican members (Jim Banks and Jim Jordan) for the January 6th select committee.”
Trump’s fury was a response to the January 6th Committee’s announcement that it would be referring four criminal charges to the DOJ regarding Trump’s conduct on January 6th.
Trump also exploded on the January 6th Committee on Truth Social, saying:
STATEMENT ON JAN 6 COMMITTEE REFERRAL
These folks don’t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Americans know that I pushed for 20,000 troops to prevent violence on Jan 6, and that I went on television and told everyone to go home….
….The people understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation, the DBI, are out to keep me from running for president because they know I’ll win and that this whole business of prosecuting me is just like impeachment was — a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican Party.
Also in his furious Truth Social posting about the Committee and its charges, Trump said:
The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2. I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!
The Committee’s anti-Trump members took to Twitter to pat themselves on the back and defend themselves from Trump’s attacks.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, for instance, said “Our work on the @January6thCmte has led us to criminally refer Donald Trump to DOJ. We now turn to the criminal justice system to ensure Justice under the law. The American people can ensure he’s never elected again.”
Similarly, the January 6th Committee itself tweeted a quotation from Rep. Jamie Raskin, another anti-Trump member of the committee. It posted:
“We understand the gravity of each and every referral we are making today… just as we understand the magnitude of the crime against democracy we describe in our Report.
But we have gone where the facts and the law lead us, and inescapably they lead us here.”

@RepRaskin
Adam Schiff, for his part, said:
The January 6 Committee has just referred Donald John Trump to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution.
There is sufficient evidence that he committed multiple crimes.
And it’s past time for him to face justice.
