War on Language Continues With Michigan Firing Latest Shots

The latest shots have been fired in the war on language, with the brave state of Michigan and its Public Health Department taking the initiative to ban certain words for fear of offending black and brown descendants of slaves. Of course, most black and brown people don’t know if they are direct descendants of slaves, and the majority don’t care, but count on a leftist state like Michigan to pro-actively make a race issue where none existed.

It’s recalled that Stanford University, that bastion of liberal ideology, compiled a list of terms in December that they wanted to do away with before pressure from conservative outlets forced them to relent on the madness. Not to be outdone, Michigan said, “Hold my beer.”

Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services says it will no longer use the words “field worker” in agency communications, citing the term’s “implication for descendants of enslaved Black and Brown individuals.”

The department said “staff and stakeholders have raised concerns” about the term’s allegedly racist connotations.”

The government of Michigan is not the only progressive body to put “field” out to pasture. On Monday, the University of Southern California’s school of social work announced that it had removed the term from its curriculum, citing the need to “reject white supremacy.”

It would be interesting to see the demographic breakdown in terms of where USC social work graduates made the most reports and home visits. However, that’s a discussion for another time. We expect that lunacy out of California. Michigan, however, seems to be a lost cause as well. Not only did the state re-elect one of the worst, most draconian governors in Gretchen Whitmer, but they also elected a Democrat super majority. Michigan is indeed lost for the foreseeable future.

“This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that could be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant,” an email from the university’s education department said. “Phrases such as ‘going into the field’ or ‘field work’ may have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign.”

Formerly known as the “field education department,” the school’s education program will now be called the “practicum education department.”

The changes reflect the linguistic churn of “woke” progressivism, in which words deemed insensitive or harmful are purged from bureaucratic vocabularies. That churn has been especially turbulent on college campuses: In 2016, Yale University stopped referring to the heads of its residential colleges as “masters,”  claiming the term was “associated with the ownership of slaves.” And in December, Stanford University compiled a list of “harmful phrases,” including  “brown bag” and “blackballed,” that should be removed from university websites.

Clearly, these folks aren’t familiar with the “sticks and stones” mantra of our childhoods. Now, words CAN hurt you, even if you didn’t know or care that you might have been the great, great, great grandchild of a slave. Of course, many white people are descendants of European slaves, but screw whitey. We have had our way with the language for long enough! The war on words is actually more racist than the words ever were. White people on the left, in their zeal to dismantle so-called white supremacy, have actually become bigger racists than most white people ever dreamed of being. Changing language so as to not hurt a black or brown person’s feelings is implying that they are too emotionally fragile to manage otherwise. How racist is that? Truly, the left has shown the depths of their racism with unchecked virtue signaling and altering of supposed “hurtful” language. Hopefully, black and brown people everywhere appreciate their efforts.
