Florida men will be Florida men, as the memes of their criminal acts always remind us. Such was the case late at night on March 4th, when a group of motorcyclists tried fleeing the cops and one of them had a rendezvous with reality delivered by a truck after he focused on flipping off the cops instead of fleeing them and ended up on the rock-hard asphalt.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office commented on the classically Floridaincident in a post on Facebook, saying:
Here’s a good way to get yourself killed. Last night, Deputy Bissonnette attempted a traffic stop on a group of motorcyclists popping wheelies on Old Dixie Highway. The group accelerated, fled at high speed and continued driving recklessly, passing vehicles across solid double lines.
Upon approaching North Beach Street and West Granada Boulevard, the group ignored a red light and continued fleeing from deputies. One of them took the opportunity to look back and flip off the deputies behind him, after which he entered the intersection directly into the path of an oncoming truck.
Joshua Richardson survived the crash and ran away from the scene but was quickly apprehended by deputies in the area. In addition to a trip to the hospital, he’s charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting without violence and leaving the scene of a crash. He’s also receiving traffic citations for failure to stop at a red light and passing in a no passing zone.
Watch the incident here:
As you can see in the nearly three-minute-long video shared by the department, Deputy Bissonnete attempted to pull over a group of motorcyclists who were “popping wheelies.” The group ignored him and his requests to pull over. Instead, they decided to lead the police on a high-speed chase.
The footage shows them weaving recklessly between cars before attempting to dart through an intersection at a red light. That ended predictably with one of the motorcyclists driving directly into the path of an oncoming car when flipping off the police. He somehow not only survived getting hit by a truck while on a motorcycle, but then was well enough to try fleeing from the police. They quickly apprehended him and pinned him to the ground, as can be seen in the video
After Richardson was pinned and handcuffed by the cops while complaining about being hurt, one of the deputies said, “You know how your leg doesn’t get hurt? You don’t run from the cops and crash your bike.”
Richardson, obviously not in a good mood given his arrest and injuries from the collision with a truck, said, “Do you think this is funny?”
That’s when he got hit with reality by another deputy, who said “No, I don’t think it’s funny. It’s incredibly stupid.”
Indeed. Not only with Richardson now have to deal with the injuries and economic damage from a crash caused by his driving his motorcycle recklessly, but he’ll also have to deal with the legal consequences of that poor decision-making and having fled the cops.
