Thank goodness Mitch McConnell has all that money from the Chinese shipping line associated with the Red Chinese Navy that he and his wife own, as the injuries he suffered in a fall during a private dinner were far more serious than initially indicated by his staff.
At the time of his fall, the statement released by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s team simply said, “This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.”
Popp’s statement on the Thursday after the Wednesday night fall hinted that the fall might have been a bit more severe “Leader McConnell tripped at a dinner event Wednesday evening and has been admitted to the hospital and is being treated for a concussion. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of observation and treatment. The Leader is grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes.”
Well, McConnell’s injuries were far more severe than his staff let on, as a recent statement from McConnell spokesperson David Popp said that Sen. McConnell was just released, suffered a concussion in his fall, and will now have to go to rehab for his injuries. In the statement, Popp said:
“Leader McConnell’s concussion recovery is proceeding well and the Leader was discharged from the hospital today. At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home. Over the course of treatment this weekend, the Leader’s medical team discovered that he also suffered a minor rib fracture on Wednesday, for which he is also being treated. The Leader and Secretary Chao are deeply thankful for the skilled medical care, prayers and kindness they have received.”

That’s not all. An anonymous McConnell staffer said, when speaking to reporters about the fall and how long Sen. McConnell’s stint in rehab may take, that the “decision will be made by the Leader’s physicians and the therapists. It is very common to undergo physical therapy to regain strength after a hospital stay and this ranges anywhere from a week to two weeks.”
USA Today reports that Senate Minority Leader McConnell has kept in touch with the No. 2 Republican by text, though he’s yet to speak in person to him. As that outlet reported:
The No. 2 Senate Republican has kept in touch by text with GOP Leader Mitch McConnell since a recent fall and concussion but has not yet talked directly to the Kentucky legislator, he told reporters Wednesday.
“I have not spoken with him,” Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., the GOP whip said. “I have communicated with him, but I look forward to making that happen.”
“I would like to add to what Sen. Thune said about all of our thoughts and how much we miss our leader, Sen. McConnell,” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, of West Virginia, added during Wednesday’s press conference.
