Former NCAA swimmer and asterisked champion Lia Thomas joined the WBNA’s convicted Russian felon Brittney Griner in calling out critics of biological men competing against biological women, saying they were “transphobic” for suggesting sports divisions should be bifurcated by biological sex.
And Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld wasn’t having any of it, as he mocked Thomas with his trademark wit and humor.
“First, I gotta give the swimmer some credit. Lia’s got some serious balls,” Gutfeld joked. “I mean, to tell feminists how to be a feminist, you gotta say that’s pretty gutsy.”
Gutfeld went on, saying that the issue bothered decent people because it amounted to the formerly mediocre male swimmer “cutting in line” against women doing their best.
“Instinctively almost biologically, human beings do not like line cutters” he asserted. “Men who identify as women in sport, and they win a lot, feels like you’re cutting in line.”
“The fact is no one really cares about adults getting sex changes. You want to change your sex, if your family’s okay with it, we don’t care. Have fun. Do whatever you want. But when you do it mysteriously right before you start engaging in female sports or it involves children, it sets off an alarm, and you immediately get the feeling, no, this isn’t fair,” he added.
Thomas’ own comments came while speaking with another former NCAA swimmer, Schuyler Bailar, who also claims to be a man. The specific remark arose after Thomas was asked by Bailar about a letter sent by Thomas’ female teammates to the NCAA which pleaded with the organization to put an end to the so-called inclusive practice of letting a biological male undress in front of biological in the locker room and then destroy them in the pool.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently spoke out against the idea of biological men swimming against women as well in a not particularly veiled attack on Lia Thomas, saying, “It is wrong to have a swimmer compete for three years on the men’s swim team, switch to the women’s team, and then win the women’s national championship. That is a fraud. That is wrong.”
Former women’s swimmer Riley Gaines attacked the NCAA for allowing biological men like Thomas to compete as well, saying:
“Not only were we being forced to compete against biological men, change in a locker room with biological men who, keep in mind, were fully intact with male genitalia, it was at this point I realized we as female athletes were being sidelined to men and reduced to a photo op, which of course makes a mockery of everything I’ve dedicated my life to.”
“I feel like it’s really only happened in the past couple weeks where I’m— get emotional talking about the locker room scene because it is just so wild that you can turn around and see a 6’4 biological man pull his pants down watching you undress, and no one is willing to stick up for you? I’ve done a good job of not getting emotional, but I see what all is on the line. … I am fortunate, or hopeful, one day that I’ll be able to have little daughters, and I do not ever want to have to imagine them in a situation where they’re faced with that.”
