Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is embroiled in allegations of unlawfully recording a phone conversation with a defense attorney representing one of the defendants in her RICO case against former President Donald Trump and his associates.
According to Christopher Kachouroff, the attorney representing Trump co-defendant Harrison Floyd, Willis purportedly recorded a conversation with one of Kachouroff’s colleagues based in Maryland without their knowledge or consent.
Floyd, who established “Black Voices for Trump,” is among 16 co-defendants. His legal team is advocating for a trial relocation to Coffee County, citing doubts about receiving a fair trial in Fulton County due to Willis’ purported misconduct.
The alleged recording could potentially contravene Maryland’s Wiretap Act, which necessitates consent from all parties involved in private conversations. However, Georgia, where the conversation was recorded, operates under one-party consent laws, potentially complicating legal ramifications.
In response, Floyd has called for Willis to recuse herself from the case, stressing that failure to comply by Friday may prompt further legal action.
Willis has been the subject of prior misconduct allegations, including an extramarital affair with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. These allegations have prompted Judge Scott McAfee to reopen the case for additional evidence, underscoring the ongoing legal saga surrounding the proceedings.
