Just 12 hours after former President Donald Trump received his verdict in the Manhattan hush money trial, he learned something significant: his supporters are unwavering. They demonstrated this by delivering a record-setting fundraising haul.
On Friday morning, the Trump campaign announced that it had pulled in an astounding $34.8 million in small-dollar donations within the first 24 hours, with more contributions continuing to pour in. This figure puts him on track to surpass the $10 million raised by President Joe Biden’s campaign following his 2024 State of the Union address.
Online conservative figure Alex Bruesewitz, closely connected to Trump’s inner circle, praised the MAGA supporters for their response. “TRUMP SHATTERS FUNDRAISING RECORDS AFTER RIGGED BIDEN TRIAL VERDICT,” he wrote on X. “30% of it came from first-time Trump donors. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SEE THROUGH THE BS!”
The Trump campaign issued a statement saying, “Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrats with their election interference political witch hunt have awakened the MAGA movement like never before.”
In the 2020 election cycle, Trump’s campaign and major super PACs raised and spent over $1 billion, according to OpenSecrets. Since January 2023, his third presidential run has collected about $120 million, as reported by Voice of America, although a significant portion of these funds has been spent on legal defenses related to his criminal trials. Trump’s fundraising efforts have intensified since April, with his campaign reporting a $76 million haul in conjunction with the Republican National Committee. In March, following his daughter-in-law Lara Trump’s appointment as co-chair, the RNC reported a similarly impressive fundraising performance.
With the expected criminal trial of the year behind him, Trump will now be free from the courtroom and the hefty legal bills that accumulated as his team of attorneys, led by Todd Blanche, battled Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution. Trump continues to assert that ongoing federal trials are part of a “witch hunt” aimed at distracting him from his campaign and depleting his financial resources in the race against President Joe Biden.
Meanwhile, former rivals like Ron DeSantis are rallying behind Trump, with the Florida governor committing overnight to raise $10 million for him. “I think we believe Biden needs to be beat, and the governor is willing to put the sword down,” a top DeSantis adviser told NBC News. The AP reported that Trump called into a donor retreat led by DeSantis back in April, where the two exchanged cordial remarks.
“Ron, I love that you’re back,” Trump said.
