MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough was visibly frustrated over former President Donald Trump’s recent comments at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference. Trump revisited his 2020 joke about renaming a military base “Fort Al Sharpton,” a remark that came during debates over renaming bases that honored Confederate leaders.
Trump’s speech at the conference in Washington, D.C., included jabs at the efforts of the Left to rename these bases, as he mockingly questioned the rationale behind removing Confederate names, stating, “We saved the world from those forts and now they decide to take the names off.” He continued with a sarcastic tone, “When you see ultimately what happens with those names, I call it a transition, like transitioning. They have a transition name before they name it. The Reverend Al Sharpton Fort. Fort Al Sharpton.”
Scarborough responded sharply to Trump’s comments, criticizing the former president’s preference for what he described as “losers,” in light of Trump’s electoral defeats. “I know you like losers; you like losing—you’ve lost seven years in a row,” Scarborough asserted.
He vehemently disagreed with the idea of commemorating Confederate figures, stating, “Southerners like myself, we don’t really like naming forts after losers; that’s not transitioning—that’s like we want to name forts after American patriots who win wars, Donald.”

Scarborough further illustrated his point by referencing the film “Patton,” where George C. Scott, portraying General Patton, declares, “Americans don’t want some loser who tried to overthrow the federal government so slavery could continue another hundred years or so. We like winners.”
Braxton Bragg, known for leading forces in major Civil War battles like Shiloh and Chickamauga, has become a contentious figure as movements to reassess Confederate symbols gain momentum. The U.S. military and other institutions are increasingly pressured to reevaluate and potentially rename these commemorations in the wake of heightened scrutiny and protests.
