Andrew Roth leads the State Freedom Caucus Network, an organization dedicated to empowering conservatives to gain control over state governments nationwide. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Roth emphasized the prevalence of what he calls “swamps” in every state, stating, “There are 50 swamps.” He pointed out that certain “liberal Republicans” partner with Democrats to expand government, creating a “uniparty” dynamic that undermines true conservative values.
Roth’s remarks highlight a concerning trend: many Democrats, particularly in red states, can only succeed electorally by aligning themselves with the Republican label. While they may profess strong stances on issues like gun rights and abortion, Roth noted that once elected, they often act contrary to conservative principles, pushing for increased government intervention. “They say they’re good on guns, and babies, and a few other things, but then they get in there, and they vote like liberals,” he remarked.
The State Freedom Caucus Network’s mission is to reduce taxes and government spending. Roth underscored that the first step in their approach is exposing lawmakers who do not uphold conservative principles. “Once you can do that, then you can hopefully start getting good people elected and then cut the budget, cut taxes, cut spending,” he explained.
Currently, the organization has established freedom caucuses in 13 states, including Georgia, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. However, Roth pointed out that deeply conservative states like Texas and Florida are notably absent from the list. He attributed this gap to a lack of conservative legislators, stating, “In Texas, I could probably say there’s only one or two House members,” and calling out the minimal representation of true conservatives in states like Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi, where he found “zero” conservative lawmakers.
Roth described this situation as a significant problem that many are unaware of, saying, “This is a big, big problem.” The organization assigns a state director to each freedom caucus state, a role crucial in navigating legislation and strategizing with other groups. One of the noteworthy developments mentioned by Roth involves Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez challenging the incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, signifying a move towards a more accountable and conservative representation in Congress.
