US Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro announced the arrest of a woman who allegedly traveled from New York to Washington, D.C., with intentions to assassinate President Trump. The suspect, 50-year-old Nathalie Rose Jones, faces serious charges, including threatening the President’s life and making communication threats to kidnap any person. “She was working to have [Trump] eliminated. She’s now in custody; she will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” stated Pirro.
Jones, a resident of Lafayette, Indiana, was apprehended on August 16. Court documents reveal that from August 2 to August 9, Secret Service agents monitored her social media activity, observing threatening comments on her Instagram account. She labeled the President a terrorist and referred to his administration as a dictatorship. These posts criticized his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and called for his removal.
On Facebook, Jones continued to express alarming sentiments. On August 6, she told the FBI in a post, “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him.” Two days later, she urged U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to arrange the President’s arrest. On August 15, during a voluntary interview with Secret Service agents, Jones affirmed her threats. She claimed that if given the opportunity, she would take Trump’s life and described the specific means by which she would do so, mentioning a “bladed object” she’d use for the act.
After participating in a protest on August 16, which circled the White House, Jones acknowledged her past threats during a second interview. Despite this acknowledgment, she denied any current desire to harm the President. Law enforcement swiftly took action, arresting her after confirming ownership of the threatening social media accounts.
Pirro emphasized the seriousness of the charges. “Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake—justice will be served,” she asserted, expressing gratitude to law enforcement for their diligent work in protecting national leaders.
