In a recent segment on Fox News, Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino took a strong stance against California Governor Gavin Newsom, criticizing him for his allegations regarding a Border Patrol operation aimed at members of the Tren de Aragua gang. This immigration raid coincided with a rally held by Newsom, who claimed it was no coincidence that ICE agents were arresting illegal aliens nearby.
During the rally, Newsom expressed his outrage, saying, “And right outside, at this exact moment, are dozens and dozens of ICE agents. You think it is coincidental?” His remarks suggested a politicization of law enforcement efforts under the Trump Administration. In response, Bovino dismissed the governor’s claims as mere “tantrum” behavior, questioning whether Newsom and other sanctuary state politicians even recognize that they are supporting dangerous criminals. Bovino asked, “Does the governor or Mayor Bass… want those individuals walking the streets?”
He highlighted the threat posed by illegal aliens linked to violent criminal organizations, referring specifically to members of the Tren de Aragua gang. “Where’s the outrage,” he pressed, “when there are Tren de Aragua members walking with impunity on the streets of Los Angeles?” Bovino underscored that 40 different law enforcement teams were deployed across Los Angeles the day of Newsom’s rally, asserting that the operation targeted illegal immigration, not the governor’s political standing.
Bovino emphasized the scale and intention of the operation, stating, “We absolutely targeted all of Los Angeles yesterday.” Among those arrested was an alleged member of the Tren de Aragua gang, underscoring the seriousness of the raid. He clarified the agency’s approach by saying, “The time is every time. And the location is everywhere,” indicating a commitment to continue such operations proactively.
Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem corroborated the planning behind these operations, explaining, “Every single one of our ICE and Border Patrol operations is built on information.” This further reinforces the notion that such raids are driven by intelligence and strategy, not political motives.
The clash between law enforcement and political leaders in California continues to escalate, with both sides digging in. As law enforcement aims to combat rising crime linked to illegal immigration, responses from politicians often reflect a struggle to balance public safety with political narratives.
