On Friday morning, two easyJet planes collided while taxiing at Manchester International Airport. The incident occurred around 6:30 BST as both aircraft were moving on the airfield. A representative from the airport confirmed, “Two easyJet planes clipped wings as they taxied on the airfield.” Operations at the airport were briefly halted to assess the situation, but within minutes, both planes were able to taxi back to their stands, and flights resumed.
According to the airline, no injuries were reported among passengers. However, as safety checks were conducted, delays affected several airlines, including Finnair and Virgin Atlantic. Travel and Tour World raised concerns regarding the incident, highlighting that collisions on the taxiway question airport safety protocols and operational procedures.
One passenger on a flight to Gibraltar described the event, stating, “Just on the plane at Manchester Airport and another plane has just hit our wing and took the wing off.” This collision sparked reactions from those onboard, with reports noting a tense atmosphere among passengers. Tynisha Chaudhry, also aboard the flight to Gibraltar, likened the impact to a car accident, saying, “We felt the whole plane shudder – it was a massive hit.” She added that numerous fire engines responded to the scene, amplifying the anxiety in the cabin.
easyJet issued a statement confirming the incident and emphasized their commitment to safety. “An immediate investigation has been launched to understand what happened,” the airline reported, underscoring that the safety and security of passengers and crew members remain their highest priority.
The planes involved in the collision were scheduled for 6:15 a.m. departures, one to Gibraltar and the other to Paris. Although the airport’s operations returned to normal quickly, the event may lead to scrutiny surrounding the protocols in place to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
