A Houston homeowner protected himself and his family on Friday night, using his firearm to defend against two masked men posing as police officers. The incident raises serious questions about safety and the lengths individuals must go to in order to safeguard their homes.
According to reports from Fox News, the two suspects approached the home equipped with bulletproof vests clearly marked with “police” and displayed badges. However, something didn’t add up for the homeowner. He noticed the absence of patrol cars and flashing lights, triggering his suspicion. “They became suspicious because they have a Ring camera and the suspects were stating they had a warrant,” explained Lt. Khan from the Houston Police Department. “But it’s just two people, and they’re masked up and no police cars, no lights or anything like that.”
When the men fired into the home, the residents were quick to act. During the exchange of gunfire, the homeowner successfully returned fire, striking both intruders. Police later confirmed that one of the homeowners delivered the fatal shots, which ended a dangerous situation. Emergency responders attempted CPR on the attackers at the scene, but their efforts were in vain. The suspects were pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Fortunately, the homeowners were unharmed.
Neighbors reported hearing a flurry of gunshots—22 in total, as later confirmed by a report from KHOU 11. The police spent a significant amount of time scouring the area for evidence, nearly 12 hours, before concluding their investigation on-site. Authorities suspect that the deceased men were in their 20s, although their identities have not yet been released as investigations continue.
