The volleyball season is upon us again, but it has arrived with its controversies. For many of us, sports represent a cherished part of our culture—an arena of competition, skill, and fair play. Yet, in recent years, particularly in the realm of women’s athletics, we have witnessed an alarming trend that threatens the very foundation of fairness in sports.
This past NCAA volleyball season became a battleground over the rights of female athletes. As a proud supporter of women’s sports, I find it deeply troubling that organizations like the NCAA and USA Volleyball (USAV) have failed to protect female athletes from male competitors who are crossing the lines of fair competition. This situation exemplifies the disregard for basic principles of equality and respect for women in sports that so many of us hold dear.
Under President Trump’s leadership, significant strides were made to restore common sense to this discussion. Trump took decisive action by mandating that athletic eligibility be defined by biological sex, not vague notions of “gender identity.” This executive order was a much-needed intervention at a time when female athletes were left vulnerable. Despite USAV’s purported new policy addressing these concerns, it leaves much to be desired. The phrase “sex assigned at birth” is not only misleading but diminishes the fundamental truth about our physical differences—something that cannot simply be erased by a piece of paper.
For hard-working Americans, many of whom have played sports themselves or watched their children do so, this is not just a matter of policy—it’s about dignity and respect for women who dedicate themselves to their sport. Women’s sports have achieved new heights, breaking attendance and viewership records, yet their governing bodies seem determined to offer little more than lip service. This weak response and the ongoing promotion of leftist advocacy groups reveal a deeper issue—a refusal to acknowledge the biological realities that define our existence.
As concerned citizens united by the values of fairness, we must rally behind those advocating for the protection of women in sports. The demand for organizations like USAV to uphold the dignity and safety of female athletes is paramount. It’s not just about winning on the court; it’s about defending the rights and futures of women everywhere. We owe it to ourselves, our daughters, and the next generation of female athletes to stand firm in this fight for justice and equality. It’s time for all of us to raise our voices, to challenge the status quo, and to ensure that the principles of fairness and respect prevail in the game we love.
