First on Fox, Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity has officially thrown her hat in the ring for the governor’s race in 2026. In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Garrity criticized incumbent Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro, claiming he “has failed the state” on key issues such as energy production, education, and job creation. “I have a much different vision for the Commonwealth,” she stated. Garrity emphasized the importance of tapping into Pennsylvania’s vast oil and gas resources, stating they are essential for the state’s economic growth. “We really need to take advantage of what we have right under our feet,” she said, pointing out that harnessing these resources could provide much-needed financial relief for the state.
Her energy stance aligns closely with that of Donald Trump and other Republican leaders, who are advocating for increased energy production in Pennsylvania. Garrity articulated the significant economic potential of the state’s natural gas reserves, referring to them as “billions of dollars in economic opportunity.”
In last year’s elections, Pennsylvania revealed itself as a competitive battleground, reflected in Trump’s victory and McCormick’s win over a long-time Democratic senator. Garrity noted that voters are seeking “more money in our pockets” and desire less government interference in their lives. She highlighted issues that resonate strongly with constituents, such as school choice and maintaining fairness in sports, particularly regarding the participation of transgender athletes.
Critiquing Shapiro’s educational policies, Garrity asserted that “he might be able to play political games with education, but our kids certainly can’t.” She called his alignment with what she termed “radical liberals” a betrayal of female athletes, arguing for common sense in sports regulations.
Garrity acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, “I’m definitely not as good of a politician as Josh Shapiro,” while also recognizing her hard work and knack for surprising victories. She cited her prior experience as a state treasurer and her military service as adding to her credentials. “I have been an underdog my whole life,” she told Fox News Digital, expressing confidence in her ability to challenge favored incumbents.
Garrity’s campaign marks a significant moment for Pennsylvania politics as the primaries approach in 2026. With a path cleared of other potential candidates, her candidacy may reshape the landscape as voters assess the candidates’ positions on crucial issues.
