A Texas man has been arrested after making online threats toward attendees of a vigil held in honor of a controversial figure. Nineteen-year-old Xaelyn Dunbar faces serious charges after allegedly posting threatening comments on Facebook regarding the vigil for Charlie Kirk at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Law enforcement officials reported that Dunbar’s comments were alarming enough to warrant immediate action.
According to reports, Dunbar commented on a post by the San Antonio Young Republicans, expressing his intent to disrupt the vigil. He reportedly wrote, “This is a disgrace and I can tell you right now ima make sure this won’t be a good nor comforting vigil yall watch and see.” The posts escalated, with Dunbar saying, “ima make this a movie me and my truck.” He further threatened that attendees would see the demonstration of how much Kirk “really means” when he added a warning about not trying to stop his Ford 250 Diesel truck.
After authorities were alerted to Dunbar’s comments, police conducted a welfare check at his residence. When approached by officers, Dunbar reportedly admitted to posting the messages and stated, “Even if I’m 19 years old, that doesn’t mean I won’t still act like a kid.” He acknowledged that his posts could be interpreted as threatening and defensively remarked, “If that’s what it takes, I did what I did, and I can take the consequences.”
As Dunbar demonstrated a lack of remorse, the potential consequences of his actions became very real. Arrested by the University police, he has been charged with making a terroristic threat, and records show a bond of $40,000 was set for his release.
The vigil for Kirk was attended by roughly 1,000 people just hours after Dunbar’s threats, highlighting the serious nature of his comments. Kirk, a prominent political figure, was assassinated earlier this month while engaging in a debate at Utah Valley University.
