Dominion Voting Systems, a key player in election technology, has announced its sale to Knowink, a company based in St. Louis and run by Scott Leiendecker, a former Republican election official. This transition marks a significant shift in the ownership of election technology as Leiendecker intends to steer Knowink toward a renewed focus on integrity and transparency in the voting process.

Knowink, now poised to operate under the name Liberty Vote, has made headlines for its innovative approach to election management. Leiendecker’s vision began back in 2011 when he founded the company, introducing the Poll Pad—a technology designed to streamline the voter check-in process. His accolades include significant achievements, such as reducing wait times for voters and saving taxpayer dollars through increased efficiency in state and local election operations.

Today, Leiendecker leads a company that employs over 150 people and generates more than $55 million in annual revenue. With its technology already adopted in a third of U.S. states and Washington, D.C., Liberty Vote is set to further expand its reach following the acquisition of Election Administrators in 2016, which empowered the company against its competitors in the election technology arena.

Leiendecker’s expertise in election oversight is evident from his tenure as the youngest Election Director in St. Louis. He successfully managed a budget of $2.5 million and a staff of 25, earning recognition for implementing the Help America Vote Act. His leadership transformed St. Louis’s Election Board, replacing outdated systems with more efficient technologies. His work garnered praise from local officials, including the St. Louis City Mayor and the Board of Aldermen, for enhancing public trust in elections.

In recognition of his contributions to election integrity, Leiendecker received resolutions from both the Missouri House and Senate, highlighting his commitment to fair elections. This background indicates a strong foundation for Liberty Vote as it steps into the future of election technology.

The company recently issued a statement clarifying its objectives moving forward. Liberty Vote emphasizes a commitment to domestic staffing and software development, prioritizing the use of hand-marked paper ballots, which aligns with President Trump’s executive order advocating for such measures. The firm also intends to uphold rigorous third-party auditing standards, aiming to create a simplified and transparent voting system.

This sale and the rebranding initiative reflect a broader effort to restore faith in the electoral process amid ongoing scrutiny of election security and integrity. As Liberty Vote emerges from this transition, its future contributions to the elections landscape could be critical in shaping voter confidence and operational effectiveness in the years ahead.
